Kate Draws 🌈✨️ @tacticiankate.bsky.social · 16h

HI AND HELLO #PortfolioDay I'm Kate, a freelance character artist who loves drawing ocs, fantasy, and pretty ladies!!! 🌈💖🎨 Hoping to be open for new work in the next week or two!! 🙇‍♀️

A portrait illustration of ida's oc Astra, a woman with blue skin, bright blue eyes, long wavy white hair, and a tall unicorn horn. She is dressed in black with gold lace and accents, including lots of star-shaped jewelry and danglies, and the underside of her hair is colored to look like a night sky. The background is a simple black to grey gradient with a gold border and the Monoceros constellation behind her head.

A nighttime color illustration of Narney's OC Lellio, a living doll. She has pale skin, big ol ears, ball-jointed fingers and hands, and long white hair bound loosely in gold clasps. She is dressed elegantly and standing with her hands clasped and eyes closed as though making a wish; the background is a circular graphic of the night sky filled with shooting stars, with one especially bright star centered over her head.

A color illustration of buntglas's OC Misam, a cosmic bunny lady. She has warm brown skin with light freckles and pale purple palms, a gold third eye tattoo, long flowing hair in a loose braid going from dark purple to lavender to gold and ending in a shooting star, and bunny ears. She is wearing a dark purple top and skirt, both with gold trim, and a transparent sari with intricate star-patterned trim; she has LOTS of gold accessories, all evocative of stars and moons. The background is a gold and purple art nouveau-style circular graphic with a central eye motif surrounded by celestial symbols.

A color illustration of a dragonkin/tiefling woman with deep blue skin, closed eyes, tall curved horns with a glowing crescent moon between them, and long wavy hair going from indigo at the top to pale gold at the ends. She is dressed in an indigo gown with lots of gold trim and accessories and sheer blue accent cloth. She is holding a large golden greatsword with blue roses and purple thorns around the guard. The background is an art nouveau-style circular graphic of gold celestial motifs on a black to maroon gradient.

inject this into my veins this is a man whos been mad about modern isekai and its departure from shoujo for the past 30yrs. i genuinely hope the reboot of mkr gives us the return to shoujo isekai

While “isekai” stories have become increasingly popular in the last decade, even in the '90s, there were many stories where female protagonists get transported to a magical world. What do you think makes Magic Knight Rayearth different from modern isekai? What makes these female-led stories interesting for modern audiences?

MIURA: The biggest difference is that Magic Knight Rayearth is a story about growth and the sacrifices that come with it, rather than one about cheat abilities.

In many modern isekai series, protagonists either begin with—or quickly obtain— cheat abilities that allow them to effortlessly overwhelm their opponents. Much of the appeal lies in the wish-fulfillment of watching an unstoppable hero dominate every battle.

By contrast, Hikaru, Umi, and Fū are simply three ordinary junior high school girls who are suddenly summoned to the isekai (fantasy) world of Cefiro. They take up swords, suffer injuries, shed tears, and gradually awaken both their magical powers and inner strength as they overcome their fears and insecurities. This journey of personal growth is one of the defining charms of 1990s isekai fantasy.
Even today, many stories aimed at female audiences center on romance. In the first arc of Magic Knight Rayearth, however, what drives Hikaru, Umi, and Fū is not romantic feelings for boys, but the powerful bond they share and their promise to make it back to Tokyo together. Their genuine sisterhood—built on mutual respect and supporting one another through their weaknesses—is something I believe modern audiences who appreciate independent relationships can deeply relate to.
In the latter half of the story, they don't simply carry out the mission they've been given. They begin questioning what principles should govern this world and ultimately make the choice that will determine its fate. Rather than waiting for someone else to save them, they take control of their own destiny.... alt continued

I believe this image of strong women choosing their own path embodies exactly the kind of empowerment that resonates with today's anime fans

commission for dent-de-leon on tumblr, who requested Molly and Caleb inspired by the two of cups tarot card! 🍻 thank you for commissioning me 💜 #CriticalRoleFanArt #WidoMauk

digital hips-up fan art of Caleb Widogast and Mollymauk Tealeaf from Critical Role, depicting them linking their arms while drinking from wooden tankards.
Molly is a lean tiefling that appears to be in his twenties; he has lavender skin, neck-length wavy dark purple hair, red eyes, bone-white horns that curve up and backwards from his forehead, and a long tail curling in an arc at his hip. he has peacock feathers tattooed on the side of his face and neck, and a snake winding around his right arm. he is wearing his signature harlequin pants, a wide leather girdle belt, and a white shirt with long sleeves. it is open in the front, exposing the many long-healed cuts, as well as one relatively fresh one, on his chest and neck. the sleeves are tied above his elbows, making the scars on his forearms visible too. in his right hand, he is holding a thick deck of oracle cards.
Caleb is a tall thin human in his early thirties; he has light freckled skin, chin-length slightly wavy auburn hair and a beard. he is dressed more plainly than Molly, in a white collared shirt and dark brown pants. the sleeves of his shirt are rolled up, and similarly to Molly reveal scars on his one visible forearm, though Caleb's are regularly spaced and thicker. over his shirt, he is wearing an underarm leather harness, with a book strapped at his side. he has his brown fur-collared coat slung over one of his shoulders.
the characters are lit with warm afternoon light, the sky blue behind them, and they smile as they bring their tankards to their lips.

“How much is a magical world worth?” A beautiful thread about Cabo Verde, the Peace Corps, and the World Cup:

Jill Tucker
@jilltucker
X.com
If you ever doubt how magical this world is, one day you will decide to go to a World Cup watch party in Oakland that you found online to root for a country where you spent two years trying to coax English out of the mouths of Cape Verdean teenagers. 1/7
11:42 AM • 6/25/26 • 670K Views

Jill Tucker
@jilltucker
X.com
And at the watch party you will ask the organizer if he's from Cape Verde. He will say yes, from Praia. And you'll say oh! I lived there for two years. I was a teacher. And he will ask, "What's your name?" You will tell him and he will say,
"You were my teacher."
CABO VERDE
11:43 AM • 6/25/26 • 92K Views

Jill Tucker @jilltucker • 20h
And across 30+ years and 6,000 miles you will hug a now man who tried to find you and remembered the songs you taught him and his classmates and he will apologize for how badly behaved they all were. And you will laugh and try not to cry and gape in wonder at at this crazy world.

Jill Tucker
@jilltucker
X.com
You will remember how much you love the World Cup. And what the Peace Corps meant to you. What those students, 40 to a class with no glass on the windows, meant to you.
11:43 AM • 6/25/26 • 62K Views

Jill Tucker @jilltucker • 20h
Ivan, the grown man with a touch of grey in his beard, will tell you later he has struggled to describe what it meant to him to meet again - that he shared our photo with classmates.
And when he returns from watching the Cabo Verde game, we will try to find the words together.

Jill Tucker @jilltucker • 20h And then you read that the US
House of Representatives will vote a day before that game on an amendment to eliminate the Peace Corps, which costs 1/6 the price of the Tomahawk missiles the US used in the war on Iran.

Jill Tucker @jilltucker •20h And you wonder: How much is a magical world worth?
