Look - I am probably more sympathetic to progressives than the average Dem. I like Abdul & Peggy Flanagan. I think we just need to come to terms with - charismatic, unproblematic, moderate coded candidates over perform in swing states and we need to nominate accordingly.

Gen X tossed out stainless steel & cast iron instead of learning the most basic cooking skills & they require a bit of maintenance. Switched to nonstick which they use incorrectly & put in the dishwasher, scratching it up which gives them cancer & needs replacing every 2 years. MAGA in a nutshell.

Since 2016 there is a universal partisan non-response bias in the polls as Republicans have absorbed all the low-social-trust, conspiracy-nut wings of all ideologies. Sometimes (non-presidential years) it translates to voting patterns. Sometimes (presidential elections) it doesn't.

My polling take is republicans are sitting out on polls en masse which is a sign of their social distrust but also dissatisfaction over Trump and it’ll probably come down the middle in terms of showing up. We won’t get a D+16 GB but might get D+9-10.

Sherrod Brown lost Ohio by 3.5 points, when Donald Trump was on the ballot & won by 11.5. In an R+2.7 year. If the GB shifts even 4%, becoming D+1, Sherrod Brown logically wins. The GB is going to be D+5-6 in the worst case scenario. And yet I cannot mentally reconcile myself to Brown winning.

In 2020 and 2024 we knew internal polls showed the reality - JOD kept telling us in 2020 that the election was a lot closer than it looked. In 24 Plouffe admitted it was always tied. I don’t know if the public polls are right. But Republican behavior certainly seems to think so.
