@btobirds.bsky.social I saw these two wheatear near me (south Gloucestershire). Looks like a male and female. I saw today that there's no record of breeding anywhere near where I am. Worth investigating?

A Supersaurus' walk through a flooded plain is interrupted by three Allosaurus. The theropods are passing through, an adult Supersaurus is a prey that carries too many risks, but for a moment, They look at each other briefly before everyone goes their respective ways #Paleoart

Only a few bones left to add! I'd like to do a #Eotyrannus blog spot to showcase how I reconstructed this fellow, and how it differs from my original one.

Having a re-look at #Eotyrannus for a big project of mine. I think I've found a way to get rid of that awful long torso that I originally reconstructed way back for the Eotyrannus monograph.

Dealing with death threats from the right while a huge part of your job is defending yourself from your own audience is real bad. Only a pretty thin slice of humanity can handle both of those things at once.

Just putting this out here since people are still putting anime girls for scale on otherwise accurate skeletals.
We recommend humanoid silhouettes used
for scale have realistic human proportions
(i.e. avoid fictional characters with unrealistic
proportions) and indicate the height of the
human referenced.

Any dunkleosteus fans about? I made this guy last year. Literature was beginning to emerge regarding how we estimate body length, so I hedged my bets and made two versions! Subsequent literature appears to be leaning towards version 2. 🐡

Sometimes I get inspired by a word, quote or other piece of written media (often ones that I've come across on Tumblr, of all places) and that just gives me an idea for a paleoart piece. Here are some recent ones with their source of inspiration in the alt texts. #SciArt #artbyjulio #paleoart
A dead Basilosaurus (ancient whale) washes ashore under a purple-ish overcast sky, a pelagornithid seabird flying by. Inspired by the quote "To be born into the waves and die as foam" which is apparently from unknown origin but probably refers to the original The Little Mermaid tale by Hans Christian Andersen. An Elasmotherium, an extinct hairy rhino with a single horn on its forehead, looks forward towards a hazy Ice Age landscape illuminated by the sunset. Inspired by the word "Endling", which means the last remaining individual of a species - after the death of which, the species is officially no more. Two woolly mammoths fight on a snowy steppe with some mountains in the background. Inspired by the quote "violence for violence is the rule os beasts" which funnily enough came from a Tumblr post, where the OP describes a dream in which this sentence was spoken by Barack Obama.A mother Macrauchenia (extinct camel-like, funny-nosed herbivore from South America) looks down on its two-headed offspring laying down on the grass beneath the night sky, a shiny star above them. Inspired by the poem "The Two-Headed Calf" by Laura Gilpin.

My first post on bluesky is a heavy WIP - I'm doing a vintage looking poster on Rhaetian (Late Triassic) reptiles from the UK! Clevosaurus, Terrestrisuchus, and Kuehnosaurus in bound... alongside others, and I'm open to suggestions for which taxa I should DEFINITELY include!
