Medicare is negotiating the prices of 15 drugs. Pharma cos. raised prices for all the drugs faster than the rate of inflation over abt a decade & at more than double the rate of inflation for 13/15 drugs. During that time nearly half the drugs doubled in price. We must negotiate prices at launch.

Great article on FL's inability to import lower-priced drugs. As Commissioner Califf notes, this was known. As just one example, FDA's 2019 preliminary regulatory impact assessment flagged this issue. 1/2
Increases in competition in U.S. prescription drug markets may be limited. The
Canadian drug supply is smaller than the U.S. drug supply5 [8] [9], and the
Canadian supply of eligible prescription drugs for import is controlled by the
same manufacturer as controls the U.S. supply. In addition, Canadian regulatory
agencies and/or manufacturers may also limit supply to be exported to the U.S.
For all these reasons, there is question as to whether this proposed rule could yield
non-zero benefits.
