The worst part about Rust becoming the target language for AI vibe coding is it makes it so hard to find interesting writing about Rust. I’m slightly skeptical about AI applied to programming, but vibe coded Rust discussions flooding the channel completely fucking sucks.

Has anyone noticed that a lot of information/telecom services are just having weird little fuck ups more frequently? I’m assuming it’s AI code with weird edge cases and bad tests being rolled out, but it’s very hard to prove, of course.

Finally got a chance to see Mandalorian and Grogu. I actually liked it a whole lot. I know it’s kinda just a big “episode”, but it’s the kind of Star Wars story I’ve loved since I was a kid: something at the edges, showing us a galaxy you can tell a fun story in with fun characters.

@amorrow.bsky.social I have to take some umbrage with some of the statements in your piece about the law firm today: programming is very much *not* just right or wrong. It has measurable outcomes. But the accuracy of those outcomes is only as good as the completeness of the measurements taken.

Anyone else feel a little crazy that we’re like, two weeks away from a manned Moon fly-by mission and damn near no one’s talking about it? Like, I fucking get why. It just… fills me with a new and unique flavor of dread.

Pluribus is terrible science fiction. It has nothing particularly interesting to say about the concept the show hinges on and it has created incomprehensible barriers to any interesting questions being explored. Good thing it’s fantastically executed as a film product.

Andrej Karpathy wrote up a tool to have ChatGPT 5.1 grade HN threads on whether predictions were accurate or not. One thread was about a John Searle (AI skeptic) interview. The AI appears to be biased to believe AI’s are in fact thinking. karpathy.ai/hncapsule/20...

Just watched Weapons. Cool thematic movie, tried to do too much, plot doesn’t hold water as edited. Someone oughta redo the concept and actually make a horror film.

Today's EA thing is the best chance yet for there to be a new Crusader No Remorse game, because they'll eventually have to sell all that IP off when the company collapses.

With news of the message inscribed on the bullet casing being “*notices bulge* oWo what’s this?”, and the fact that he was shot in the neck, is it fair to say that the shooter snapped Charlie Kirk’s choker?

Hi there, if you are critical of or in favor of Transformer based language models, I would strongly urge you to learn basically how they work and are constructed bbycroft.net/llm shows a very detailed visual walkthrough of a toy model and how it relates to some older large models.

I think we’re lacking language to describe the kinds of difficulty encountered in games. I propose words like tuning, reads, puzzle, and timecard. Not exhaustive. I’ll give some examples:

I’m grooving with Silksong much better than Hollowknight so far. The start being a fair bit more linear is helping me get a handle on what to be doing in the opening hours.

So, I’m thinking the story of Alien Earth is really about how people running huge companies are giant fucking morons who overspend on capital and underspend on personnel and then ignore the advice of any personnel they did hire because they think they know better? Murrow confounds me a little though

Finished South of Midnight. What a weird game. It feels like there was some kind of very bad planning issue. There is SO much environment art and great art design and wonderful music and actually good writing. And honestly, the combat is pretty good by the end game. But the pacing is so strange.

The Parenting: goofy horror comedy with a heart of gold. It’s getting pretty poor reviews, but I don’t really know why. Horror comedy is one of my favorite genres though, so I might be biased.

Electric State wasn’t great or anything, but it wasn’t as bad as a lot of the reviews are saying. Rough opening act that doesn’t really do its world building right, too many needle drops, but pretty good otherwise.

I was yakking with a coworker the other day, and I made the assertion to him, and currently still believe, that the ultimate skill in modern society is recognizing who is and is not a grifter… provided you have a sufficient lack of moral compunction to leverage grifters against non-grifters.

I was engrossed by Pantheon, but I’m not sure I actually liked what it had to say by the end. Maybe it just lacked focus or a decisive perspective. It also ended up treating technology as magic a bit too readily, which undercuts the more grim concepts it traded in.
