US farmers are saying they "just need temporary help, until things get better." Here's the thing. US farm exports- which are mostly soy- CANNOT get better. Other countries expanded their soy industries to fill China's demand. We've walled ourselves out of the global market, folks. This is it.

Ex-farm worker here. We need to talk about this whole "But a living wage for farm workers would spike the cost of food!" thing. Not true AT ALL. Y'all don't understand how fast experienced farm workers are. The average tomato picker pulls 650lbs per hour. At $20/hr, that's $0.03/lb for labor.

Vou fazer um fio sobre pq os próximos meses serão decisivos para gripe aviária e pq vale tomar alguns cuidados desde já. Na Califórnia, já detectaram gripe aviária em mais de 1/4 dos rebanhos leiteiros. Isso na beira de uma temporada de gripe sazonal, que pode mascarar casos e misturar vírus.
