“Everything I don’t like is genocide,”
“Everything I don’t like is genocide,” they chant with smug faces.

Fine.

I don’t like cities turned to rubble,
I don’t like families buried underneath,
I don’t like mangled bodies,
I don’t like scattered bones,
I don’t like the sound a parent makes when they outlive their child,
I don’t like babies learning the sounds of war before they learn the sound of birds.

So no…
I don’t like Russia’s genocide in Ukraine.
I don’t like Israel’s genocide in Palestine.
I don’t like anyone’s genocide anywhere.

Police the words of the living
while the dead keep piling up.
History will not remember
who won the argument.

It will remember the dead.
It will remember who killed them.
It will remember who enabled it.

Call me a fool. Call me a terrorist. Call me whatever you need to call me to wipe the blood off your hands and the guilt from your soul. But most of all, call me predictable:

Everything I don’t like is genocide.

Terence Tao, who is otherwise quite bullish on AI, had this to say:
Terence Tao writes on mastodon:

Fundamentally, problems in pure mathematics, such as the global regularity problem, serve a different purpose than immediately practical problems, such as that of finding a cure to a specific disease, or increasing the energy efficiency of some engine. In most cases in pure mathematics, the problems are posed not because we desperately want the solution to these problems in and of themselves, but because we have seen from past experience that human-directed efforts to solve these problems tend to spur further development of the field through the efforts to solve such problems, and then to digest any partial or complete solutions that emerge for further insights. Prematurely solving the problem by purely AI-powered methods - particularly without full transparency into the solution process - can contaminate this process to the point where it actually becomes a net negative for the progress of mathematics as a whole.
