Maybe clarinetists will kill me but it is interesting that historically there are documented clarinetists who used vibrato in late 19th early 20th century (around the same time string and vocal vibrato started to widen and increase) but then it became “jazz”-coded and not allowed in Classical music

awake in the middle of the knight thinking about Ellen Mack’s sonata duo class at Peabody where I watched her over and over show very good pianists that they rely too much on the sustain pedal and can’t really control the touch or texture without finger pedaling. wish I still had some videos
