My problem with the White House thunderdome isn’t that it’s “vulgar,” or “tacky,” qualities I often enjoy & terms which are often crudely classist when used pejoratively. My problem, as always, is the fascism. Don’t get distracted by taste, which is deeply subjective; it’s the fascism.

Haven’t heard the expression ‘police state’ for a while. Here’s the Wikipedia definition.
F006139r uses, see Police state. =07 (disambiguation).
A police state is a state whose government institutions exercise an extreme level of control over civil
society and liberties. There is typically little to no distinction between the law and the exercise of political power by the executive, and the deployment of internal security and police forces play a heightened role in governance. A police state is a characteristic of authoritarian, totalitarian or illiberal regimes (contrary to a liberal democratic regime). Such governments are not exclusive to simply one-party states or dominant-party states, as they can also arise in a democracy or
multi-party system.

This critique of RFK Jr’s incompetence is vastly understated. It’s not just that his views are “unscientific” but the conspiracy theories and “survival of the fittest” approach to public health that he endorses is likely to lead to the death and illness of many Americans.

1/ Cruelty is one of the worst vices in societies that value freedom and equality (a point from Judith Shklar). The disregard for the poor, sick, and vulnerable and the hatred of compassion that dominates the culture of MAGA is a “re-evaluation of values” that regards cruelty as the highest virtue.
