One way to slow down AI is to start strengthening and enforcing privacy laws. Even existing laws if interpreted wisely and enforced by regulators with a spine can make a difference.

One problem I don’t think out literature of dystopias & authoritarianism has prepared us for very well is that in a massive country with a federalist system, an incredibly dangerous multimodal institutional collapse can FEEL pretty normal for a while in terms of most folks’ daily lives.

If you are focused on Flock in your communities, can I interest you in real-time crime centers, video analytics, drones, sensors, or other pattern-matching and tracking technologies. A narrow focus on ALPRs obscures the other equally pervasive and panoptic policing technologies in use.

I wondered why this case settled for so much, but then read the facts. It's Nader v. GM (where Nader sued GM for stalking and harassing him) mixed with the Godfather. The eBay folks barraged these journalists with threats "including deliveries of live cockroaches and a bloody pig mask."
