Elise Clarke

One of the first arrivals of the refugee world of Terra-Renatus and member of the colonial militia. Elise Clarke looks to build a new stable life for herself and her adopted sister. Which is made all the more difficult by the trauma she endured on her war torn homeworld 8 years earlier. Her new life is turned upside down when Molzren pirates attack the Colony in a attempt to abduct the Empress' cousin. The kidnapping is thwarted by Clarke's heroic actions which leads to her being enlisted into the Royal Navy by Captain Lan Rigoc. The first human to be given the honor. Setting her on a new adventure.

“Slight snag,” Brilliance said to her laptop, where Annie’s concerned expression begged for more information. “Subject A is missing.”
“The Professor?” Annie asked, “Oh no, I hope he’s OK.” Annie was snuggling Subject B, the Professor’s identical twin, whom she called ‘Conseil.’ Its pink eyes and white fur was a striking contrast to her tawny beige skin and dark, frizzy hair.
“I hope he’s not scavenging junk food. She looked upward as if she could see through to the main floor above. “Or being fed outside his restricted diet. We don’t need our subjects in different states of health right before the science fair.”
Brilliance suspected her father played a part in aiding her rat’s escape. A tiny, handwritten note in the habitat confirmed it.

The WIP Pitch
During an act of kindess, Nin incurs the wrath of the God of the Forest, Cráeb, for trespassing, resulting in the curse of bad luck. When a traveling magician tells her he can remove the curse, but for a price, he tells her where she can find a hoard of gold. No one in her village is willing to help her on her quest, but while in the road, she meets a lone traveler, and out of the same kindness that resulted in her becoming cursed, helps him. This stranger, touched by her generous nature, helps her in her quest to find the gold so that she can return to her village, have the curse removed, and finally buy that plot of land where she can work the land instead of taking over the family brewery that she only works at out of obligation.

Now she was feeling taken advantage of yet again, kicking herself for being unable to say no. When she tried to say no, she was often made to feel that she was being selfish.

She is stripped of her titles and given a choice: return with the assassin’s head, or face excommunication—banishment from both her homeland and the afterlife. Desperate, she accepts the task as her last chance to show the Mother she deserves a place as her daughter.

Allowed only the help of another excommunicated criminal, a surly, aged tracker named Sonsan, and facing an assassin who could be anyone, she dreads she has lost her chance to return home before she has even left. But when Sonsan reveals the same shape-changing power as the assassin, she realizes there is more to her quest than she has been told. As they chase the assassin deep into a forbidden land, they must confront the buried history they discover they share, as well as the ghosts that haunt their dreams and blood, if they are to return alive.
