Enter the Yes Agenda, a fascinating new project mapping 110 clean energy projects across the country. The country isn't lacking in clean opportunities, it's lacking the political vision for a 21st century clean energy system. www.yesagenda.ca

It's berry season and you have the tiniest friends. These critically endangered babies are Egyptian tortoises that hatched on July 4 and 6, 2026. Currently, our Egyptian tortoises are living behind the scenes in a warm and cozy habitat with lots of attention from their dedicated animal keepers.

It’s reasonable to be concerned about targeting by governments that don’t have your best interests at heart, but those guys don’t need accurate stats to pass legislation that hurts you

For governments that want their policies to reflect the people in their country it’s useful to have accurate information about them. If you’re queer you want the government to know that you exist so they can’t just make policies assuming the country is full of cis straights

I thought I heard on the live stream at one point that they were doing simulated moon landing activities after splashdown. Seeing how they felt in suits and what their energy levels are post-journey so they can set appropriate task levels in the future. But maybe they’re doing both.

The get regular rest (although how anyone could possibly sleep when they could be looking out the windows at space I don’t know). The wake up call was about 9:30am US Central time and they got to the ship by about 7:30pm. So it’s a long day but not something totally unreasonable.

The moon going from full moon to a red moon and starting to go back to a normal full moon, then my camera battery door fell off.

The trade off is time. Do you care to see someone’s frozen corpse incinerated by the sun in your life time? You’re gonna have to spend extra fuel to make it happen.
000
dangerbrain.bsky.social @dangerbrain.bsky.social · 10/11/2025
Naw, the math works. There’s a point where you’re either gonna make it out of the solar system or you’re gonna fall back down the gravity well. And that point you can use a little bit a fuel to accomplish either goal. But you’ve spent the minimum amount of energy either way.

I’m not an engineer so I haven’t heard of the virial theorem, but my calculation is that the Earth’s orbital velocity is ~30km/s and it’s only ~40km/s to escape the solar system, so it should be energetically cheaper to fling undesirable people out of the solar system vs. sending them to the sun
