Election night 2008, when Obama won, Prop 8 was the largest of my 100+ data clients. The two months before that election were the hardest I've ever worked on anything. I was beyond fried. All I could do the week after was gibber and cook food for people.

I don't know if this is even it. I think if you asked them, they'd say this was persuasive, and would have some shoddy testing as evidence. There's just no competition, no one to raise questions with thinking like "oh the brand is bad, let's run against it." It's all group chats and incest.

It's important to not just call out the problem but to understand why it happens: DC messaging consultants do not believe in persuasion. They believe in carefully calibrating their messaging like a safecracker to what their target voter already believes. In this case, "both parties are corrupt."

I tell them to avoid right wing shit because the right has focused on media power VASTLY more than Dems over the past few decades. They've had to.
