they recognise something in there and think back. a large, dull-orange thought bubble occupies most of the remaining page; within it is an isometric recollection of a building, where many depictions of a small avali, vibrant orange, and grey humanoid figures interact. the final scene is them looking on, distant, at figures standing over another bedridden. the avali seems to be losing their vibrancy. the thought bubble ends abruptly, with kate and ase trying to get painterly's attention as they're depicted falling into an abyss.

this page contains imagery depicting intent to self-harm.
dark, stormy thought bubbles occupy the top of the page, with vague notions of towering figures occupying some. a purple streak soars behind them. the final thought bubbles show a clear memory of sunlight pouring into a kitchen, on approach to a knife rack. the next bubble depicts sunlight dancing off the blade of the largest knife, held in an avali's talons. the burnt orange colour of them and their thoughts is fading to grey as the bubbles disrupt and disperse. a final, grey, hazy memory shows someone else's claws putting the knife back. painterly, a faded grey besides their eyes, falls, crying. the purple streak doubles back and swoops across the bottom of the page.

"HEY. hey. talk to me," ase snaps painterly out of it. painterly stares at their talons, crying, as ase clings to their shoulder. kate asks if painterly's okay.
painterly sobs, "everything after that feels like i've been watching from a hundred miles away."
ase responds, "oh..."
"did i just.. curl up and /give up/?"
"it was-"
"for over a decade?!"

panel two. painterly continues, calming somewhat: "--it's 2026."
ase squeezes their arm. "yeah."
"i've been dissociating so bad."
a beat passes.

panel three. painterly tenses and scrunches their face up with a sharp inhale.

panel four. painterly tackles ase in a hug back down onto the bed, a wide grin on their face. "WE LIVED! WE MADE IT!!"

panel five. ase holds painterly as they continue crying, though this time with joy. the rest of the system crowd around.
