#InverteFest announcement: The December art book will be our 8th and last edition. We've been doing this since 2024 but my real life responsibilities have changed. We might revive the idea in the future in one form or another, but no promises. If you want in, this is your last chance.

Proud to present my lifesize T. rex head, affectionately named Hannibal. I created this myself from start to finish- digital sculpture, resin 3D printing, painting, etc. Huge thanks to my friend @rj-palmer.com for instrumental crits and redlines during the sculpting process.

Surprise from my lab today 🥹🧪
A glass plaque on a desk etched with text that reads “20 YEARS
Congratulations
D. Allan Drummond
In honor of 20 years leading your own research lab. We thank you for your leadership, commitment, and mentorship.
May the years ahead bring continued discovery and rigorous science that pushes the boundaries of the field:
Drummond Lab

The “0” in 20 is rendered as a budding yeast cell, the organism we’ve worked on most in those two decades.

I've been seized with an urge to draw barnacle geese after seeing The Wild Robot (which I enjoyed very much), and remembered that I drew this in 2014 after seeing a documentary about how barnacle goslings have to simply hurl themselves off their cliff nests to join their parents at ground level.
Single-panel comic drawn in black ink of a pair of barnacle goose parents at the bottom of a cliff, regarding their dazed and confused gosling, who looks up at them with a plaintive 'why??'

Why, the day I go out looking for them, I can't find one. But prior days at the same time, I'm looking at a new eclosion, a mating pair just sitting there on the sidewalk, freshly dead bugs... meanwhile, up in the trees, EEEEEEEohEEEEEEoh

Native mantises! 👽 Went out looking for cicadas, and instead saw my very first non-invasive mantis (the Carolina mantis, Stagmomantis carolinensis, the only mantis native to Illinois)...as a mating pair! 😍 Only had my phone, but here's our couple. Total delight. Good luck, kids... #bugsky
A pair of mating Stagmomantis carolina, the only mantis native to Illinois. The female is about twice the weight of the male, robust and highly camouflaged, brown with spots and a few muted stripes. The male, mounting her, is smaller, with dark brown-black wings and bright green legs. They blend into the tree bark they're on very well.

How upset would people be if I revive this series without the BG colors? People told me the colors set them apart from the usual muted/beige posters. I wanted each one to have its own identity but tbh I ran out of colors lol. Anyway, buyables: redbubble.com/people/franzanth #Art #SciArt
