iiinova — where your digital self keeps evolving

WIP of a semi-realistic portrait of Gold from last July. I was really happy with the face and then got intimidated by the hair, haha. Hoping to finish it before /this/ July.

Black and white portrait of a serious looking young man with a scar across his cheek. The face is mostly rendered while the hair is just sketchy lines.

080

The only fully rendered piece I managed for Artfight last year. I did mainly sketches as I wanted to participate without pushing myself, but I had been meaning to revenge @elliejaybird.bsky.social for years :) #artfight #artfight2025 #artistsonbluesky

A small brown mammal sleeping on the head of a large red bird, who is also sleeping. Soft, sleepy afternoon vibes.

Pieces for two art telephone games in a friend’s server, hosted earlier last year #artistsonbluesky #arttelephone

A small procession of anthropomorphic weevils walk through a tunnel of dried grass. The head weevil - in monk robes - rides on a golden stag beetle, who is pulling a large acorn on a chariot, while being tempted to move forwards by a smaller acorn being dangled on a stick. The image is cosy and warmly coloured.

A human, alien, and robot hang out in zero gravity aboard a cluttered spaceship. The human laughs as the lion-maned alien snags a marshmallow with a long tongue. The robot, which has a visor for a face and wires for hair, hangs onto the alien’s mane. Items such as masking tape and a laptop float around them.

Exercises I did for @charisloke.bsky.social’s illustration course. These are frames from the movie Nightcrawler (not the X-men one) broken down to 3 values and simple geometric shapes, while trying to retain readability and atmosphere #illustration #artistsonbluesky #nightcrawler

30 minute studies from last year. I generally only do sketch studies; these were attempts to get colour and vibe down as quickly as possible #artistsonbluesky #study #pleinair #sunset #monitorlizard

Rough illustration of a sunset over two roads, separated by a pavement and bordered by skyscrapers. The sunset is subdued, just pale blue and yellow, and a few streetlights have begun to switch on.

Rough illustration of a monitor lizard’s head. It is speckled, with deep shadows in the wrinkles of its throat.

I’m still alive, haha. Got hit with one of the longest arm pain flareups in June/July, then got costochondritis, probably due to my dad being in and out of hospital since August, and then just when things were looking up, I broke my arm. Had to get surgery and am still recovering. Shaky thumbs up

Hey everyone! I got into CAFKL9 and am working on a new comic to sell there, the longest solo comic I've done to date! I'm posting roughs daily on Patreon, and have roughs and development for other comics too. I'd be very grateful if you checked it out! www.patreon.com/cydork #comic #comicartist

Rough comic page of a person washing their hair, brushing their teeth, then flinching and discovering a crack at the corner of their mouth. Their partner materialises behind them, scaring them. Then, the pair discuss what caused the crack.

DIALOGUE

Partner: Morning babe, whatcha looking at?
Original character: Ah! You snuck up on me. I think I cut myself.
Partner: No. I'm pretty sure that's cheilitis.

Rough comic page of a noisy forest, and a bird picking about in leaf litter being stalked by a cat.

Answering that question made me realise I forgot to share these! I tried oil painting for the first time last year; these are my 2nd and 3rd paintings. The 1st one was a boring and janky still life, so I left it out. 3rd one is also technically incomplete, I missed a spot before I photographed it.

An Era 4 nameless ghoul from the band Ghost facing the left, painted in shades of blue. Diffused light is shining from behind their head, resulting in a lavender outline to the right and blue streaks on the left.

A veiny hand against an abstract surface painted in blues and greens.

Another feral-ish Gold, but this one's from last week or so. I got possessed to paint him quickly; it's fun to draw him in this state. He's in control of his faculties, not "feral" in the sense of losing it. Just visibly more feral. #gold #ndu #cat #shapeshifter

A person with cat features pressed against a wall, hackles raised, golden eye staring directly at the camera.

WIP from October. I'll finish it eventually, but I like it even now. #gold #ndu #shapeshifter

A person with cat features holding a human by the throat. He looks at the camera with a kind of innocence while blood trickles down the other person's body, who lies like an angel in a Renaissance painting.

Beginnings of an insane endeavour: documenting the markings of every adult amber ducky isopod I have, so I can recognise them individually. Started in November last year. Lines can be downloaded from my tumblr. #isopod #cubaris #cubarissp #amberducky

16 scientific diagram type drawings of Cubaris sp. "amber ducky" isopods, 4 per row. The lines and base yellow colour are identical, but each one has a different black "saddle" pattern. The first isopod in the topmost row is labelled female, and the first isopod in the third row is labelled old.

Realising this art is completely out of order, but oh well. Some more stuff from October: Gold and his immediate family (brother Kai above, mum left, dad right). An exercise in making people look different yet still related. With and without glasses, for clarity. #characterdesign #portrait #ndu

Characters I made for a design trade in my server. Each person gave several prompts for others to design a character around. 1) For Northwyrm on tumblr 2) For @artsandgoodies.bsky.social 3) For @heavenbat.bsky.social 4) For Pizzaman on Discord #anthro #characterdesign #worm #ufo #cowboy

Reference sheet of a figure wearing a teal hooded labcoat, with copper gloves and a copper gas mask. Beside them is the colour palette, and a segmented red worm with radiating tentacles instead of a face.

Reference of an anthro palawan peacock pheasant wearing an iridescent turquoise crop top and thong. The claws on both their hands and feet are painted red.

Reference of an anthro snapping turtle cowboy. He is wearing a stetson, an open waistcoat, jeans, and cowboy boots, and is holding a tin mug.

Sickly looking man with a rucksack slung off one shoulder, holding a radio detector to the sky. He is dressed in pale greens and purples, has slicked up hair, tinted glasses, and acne. His shirt says "I want to believe" with a picture of a UFO, and his rucksack has an alien and illuminati charm on it.

Eepy Karraguls from January. A fun practice at drawing their anatomy in poses I wouldn't normally do. #alien #specbio #karragul

Pterosaur-like aliens in various sleeping positions labelled, from top to bottom, left to right: idk, "The Loaf", "The Emu" and "Child's Pose".

Secret Santa art I did for @satourni.bsky.social last year! I love drawing hands and arms, it was a truly perfect matchup. This is the alt version of an originally green and red image, but I ended up preferring this more over time. #bodyhorror

A many-limbed figure crawling towards the screen. He is green, with darker green stripes, and an abstract face held by two hands.

Sketches from an online life drawing class back in October. Raccoon dogs used to be my favourite animal, and still hold a place in my heart, so it was lovely to watch and draw them. #tanuki #raccoondog #lifedrawing #wildlife #canidae #pencilsketch

Pencil sketches of raccoon dogs.

Top left: Old individual with short whiskers and scruffy fur looking down, captioned "Lady", with a cute face and heart.

Top middle: Simplified, round, younger individual facing the camera, captioned "Dumpling!"

Top right: Lady sniffing at some food on a tray, with her scruffiness emphasised

Bottom left: Lady's head poking out from beneath a pine branch.

Bottom right: Another simplified Dumpling, fullbody, facing left

Tobias and his arm demon. First pic was me trying out the demon's look, second was in response to an ask about Tobias's secrets, third is based on someone telling me to "tie that little bastard in a knot". (Also yes, I forgot his tear tattoos in the first pic) #characterdesign #demon

A middle-aged man leaning on the table, taking notes and looking very tired, while a ribbon-like creature with an arrow head extends from his arm to say "kill urself lol <3"

Short comic of the same man, Tobias, and creature, arm demon.

PANEL 1
The demon wraps around Tobias's head.

Demon: Ohoh, just one? But there's sooo many juicy ones
Tobias: Watch it...

PANEL 2
The demon "stares" at Tobias (it has no eyes) while he looks shocked.

Demon: QUICK! Don't think of a weird sex thing. Ohh, that's a good one.

PANEL 3
Tobias grabs the demon.

Tobias: SHHHH shut up, shut up, shut up!!!
Demon: Three- I don't have a windpipe, genius. Three words. Ballistic. Gel. Torso.

Short, two panel comic of Tobias and the arm demon.

PANEL 1
The demon strains towards the sky, its body tied in a knot.

Demon: Egh!

PANEL 2
The demon "looks" at Tobias while its bow hangs limply. He looks smugly at it in response.

Demon: Ohhhh you're gettin' the intestinal worm dream tonight, sunshine.

My digital artfight attacks! 1) Urda, belonging to @grusart.bsky.social 2) Vice, belonging to @vicekillx.bsky.social 3) Prippy, belonging to Laketime on ArtFight 4) Ryszard, belonging to @abysmaljack.bsky.social (once again, so glad I finally got round to drawing him :)) #artfight #artfight2024

An anthro bird woman leaning on a bar with a glass of purple liquid. She has a crow-like face, a pigeon-like feather ruff, and a peacock-like tail, in the iridescent black colours of a crow rather than the blue and green of a peacock. She has a wide-brimmed hat with a feather in it, and is wearing a purple slip. Her nails are painted with shiny purple as well.

Portrait of a humanoid figure with a skull mask sticking their long tongue out; the vibe is somewhere between mischievous and seductive. They have curved horns, large pointed ears, and large, oni-like tusks. The figure is coloured with a monotone palette plus neon pink, golden eyes, and dusky blue for their tongue.

Several fullbody drawings of a robot dog - the Aibo Entertainment Model 110, by Sony - with a checkered neckerchief. Its name, Prippy, is written in the bottom left in large print.

Middle left - Prippy in a play bow
Upper right - Prippy rolling over to expose his belly
Lower right - Prippy standing on his hind legs, pawing at the air

A grinning man dancing the tango with a skeleton. He has sharp teeth, and an incorporeal horn and arrow-tipped tail. He wears fingerless gloves and a sleeveless jacket over a long-sleeved shirt, puffy pants, and knee-high boots, His right hand is gripping the skeleton's above his head, while his left hand holds its spine. The skeleton's other arm flops behind it.

My first Artfight attack from last year, for my friend @thylacereal.bsky.social! A 2-year-late revenge for the lovely lovely plush they made of my late snail, Bread.

Photo of cross-stitch embroidery of a thylacine. The thylacine is cream coloured with rainbow-coloured stripes, and is framed by a rounded rectangular rainbow border. The fabric itself is pale blue, and lined with blanket stitch of the same colour.

Close-up of the embroidery to show details such as the bead eye.

Life cycle for my aliens, karraguls, from July 2024. Having raised tadpoles now, I might change the larva - I assumed the legs developed from nubs, then grew fingers, but it turns out they grow legs inside their body cavity and then pop them out fully-formed, but tiny! #alien #specbio #karragul

Diagram showing the development of pterosaur-like alien from egg, to larvae, to juvenile, to adults on a teal background.

Text from top, following the arrow in a zig-zag pattern:

Karragul eggs are about the size of a tennis ball with thin, permeable membranes, and must be laid in water. Due to their genetics, up to 50%of the eggs will be inviable, serving as eggs for the ones that do hatch.

Egg - embryo not yet visible

Embryo visible, moves occasionally

Larva - eats dude eggs and anything that falls into their cot

Short limbs with webbed fingers develop, body begins to take shape

Webbing on back limbs is resorbed, limbs lengthen

Juvenile - no longer dependent on water, able to both walk and fly

Adult (inland)

Adult (coastal)

Coastal karraguls are neotenic, retaining their long tails and bipedal stance, inland karraguls shift to a knuckle-walking, quadruped stance, while the bones in their tail reabsorb and fuse into a short, stiff rudder.

Triannual art update let's goooo. (I'll try to be more frequent I'm just irrationally anxious about posting here for some reason 😔)

An infographic for the setting of my Terrible Things story. More info on my tumblr www.tumblr.com/cydork/75255...

An infographic with cream text on a dark grey background, titled "The Realms". There is well over 1000 words, and so cannot be transcribed.

In the lower left corner is a circle with concentric rings of different colours, from outside to center: dark blue, orange, dark grey, with a black core. This represents Earth and its realms.

At top centre-left is a simplified side on diagram of a figure looking through a hole in the ground to a figure at a lower level.

At mid-right is a pale grey nonagon, with the points labelled (clockwise from top): Water, Lightning, Metal, Wood, Earth, Fire, Thunder, Wind, and Flesh, with their respective characters in Chinese.

Collab I did with charseraph on tumblr! They did the lovely sketch of my boy Gold, and I rendered it.

Greyscale bust of a very thin, shirtless man. He is looking towards the viewer, with light reflecting off his eyes like a cat.

Jaundice, a verrrry old character. This ref was the first time I’d drawn her in something like 13 years.

Reference sheet for a pale yellow, quadrupedal monster. She has a block shaped head and a leonine body, as well as a long, thick tail that tapers at the end. She has five digits on her front paws and three on her back ones, making them look more like a bird foot. Her ears are thin and pointed, and her eyes have white pupils on black sclera. The bottom of her feet and tip of her tail have black, leathery pads.

Hewwo new people have some backlog

Two men posing for the camera. The man on the left wears a whale skull mask, teal sweat pants, flip flops, and a salmon tank top that reads “Bitches ❤️ me for my charm and whimsy”. He is grabbing the other man by the waist, and is making the sign of the horns with his free hand. The other man has eyeshadow, tearstain tattoos, and is smirking at the camera. He’s dressed in leather pants, knee high lace up boots, and a black tank top that reads “I’m bitches”. He also has a black spiked choker and wristbands.

HOW COOL IS THIS? For the FIRST time in ONE BILLION years, two lifeforms have truly merged into one organism. In a new study, researchers report that a nitrogen-fixing organelle has been identified IN a marine alga. Meet the Nitroplast! Let’s talk about that! 🧵⬇️ 🧪

A light microscopy image shows the marine algae Braarudosphaera bigelowii, which is a potentially large evolutionary step. This algae absorbed a bacterium called UCYN-A and formed a new organelle called a nitroplast. The black arrow is pointing to the nitroplast.

Ipswich, an average blue collar man, but he's a fox with three arms. He worked in a factory that utilized a magic duplicator in production and due to poor workplace safety, he was inside it when it was turned on, leaving him with a strange disfigurement. #art #furryart

A character reference for artists describing a furry fox character named Ipswich who is dark gray with a stark white face. A parasitic twin like a copy of him is wrapped around his body like it's hugging him with its face on his shoulder

A comic showing Ipswich sleeping in bed in panel one. Panels two through four show one of his two left hands coming to life and grabbing his other left hand by the wrist

Continuation of the comic showing Ipswich in panel 1 waking up with a start and shaking his left hands. Panel 2 he looks at his left hands with annoyance and sees nail marks on his wrist. Panel 3 he flops back into bed covering his eyes with his right hand in frustration
