extremely tempted to build a game where you have to guess a kids movie based on the common sense media summary
A web doobleydoo that says Age 6+, and a 4 star rating. Below this, in small typeface it says “Fun, goofy cartoon misrepresents Incan culture.”

A friend painted a portrait of my dog and I dare say, she has captured his essence
A painted portrait of a recently groomed Lhasa Apso mix. His underbite might be appropriately described as “severe”

New Phoebe Bridgers album is out. My weekend plans:
Matt Damon as Odysseus strapped to the mast of a sailboat and scream crying as he here’s the song of the sirens.

True joy still exists for those who build their own websites.
A picture the author's website's 404 not found page. In it there is a public domain map from Edward Quin's "Maps of Unknowing" collection and the text on the page reads:

title header: "Alas, the page you seek does not exist"
body: "In life we are often faced with moments when our desire is frustrated by the circumstances of reality. This is one such instance. Whatever brilliant text or image you expected to find here does not, in fact, correspond to any material reality.

But this fact need not result in a spiral of existential despair! You can take action (a 'mailto' hyperlink highlights the two previous words) and thereby will the world you dream of into being."

*weeps in Latin, for the vulgars have won*
A screen shot of an email being edited in the Gmail browser client. A sentence reads: "...there were insufficient data" and a damnable sparkling widget from google has appeared that rudely suggests the author "correct grammar" by using the grammatical abomination "there was."

Some are calling it the trillion dollar Markov chain™
User @danabra.mov post with the word “would” and a screenshot of the Anyhropic Claude app. The app shows an open view with the title “Thought process” beneath the title the text reads: “ Ah, so this is the PS5's suspend-resume feature-the console keeps the entire game state in memory when you press the PS button, and tapping the game tile resumes it exactly where you left off, mid-animation and all. That's fundamentally different from a checkpoint system. would would would would would would would would would would would would would would would would would would

In awe of these shots from a TV program where Leonard Berstein introduced his audience to a Bach-playing MOOG synthesizer. www.youtube.com/watch?v=J8sS...
Leonard Berstein sits in the background of a picture. He is in a chair, slouched and ponderous, while in the foreground a MOOG synthesizer plays a crude, otherwordly pre-recorded rendition of a Bach fugue.A somewhat fascinated and perturbed orchestra looks on dolefully from there seats on stage as MOOG synthesizer plays a pre-recorded version of a Bach fugue. The instrument is spotlighted while the orchestra sits in the dark.

Inside of me are two wolves. One of them whispers that I should spend my time collecting every experimental guitar album that Bill Orcutt has put out. The other immediately pre-orders every Mitski album.
A cropped screenshot of the author’s bandcamp collection. It shows 6 purchased albums:
- Pile: Sunshine and Balance Beams
- Mitski: Nothings About to Happen to Me
- Bill Orcutt: Music for Four Guitars
- Bill Orcutt: Another Perfect Day
- Bill Orcutt: Music in Continuous Motion
- Black Cross Hotel: Songs for Switches

Merry Christmas to everyone, but especially to Mrs. Karl Slartman who submitted this never fail rice pudding recipe that keeps me company every year.
A recipe for Swedish Christmas Rice (Risgehnsgröt) submitted to a clearly aged communal cookbook by Mrs. Karl Slartman.

Recipe is as follows:
1 C. rice
1 t. salt
2 T. butter
2 T. sugar
1 C. water
few blanched almonds
5 C. milk
stick of cinnamon

Using double boiler, add rice to salted boiling water and butter. Boil 10 to 15 min. or until water disappears. Add the milk, sugar and cinnamon stick. Boil slowly until rice is tender.

Quite clear that I am becoming a literary sicko as I grow older.

your last saved meme is your moral philosophy…
The Seinfeld episode where Kramer’s apartment is lit up all red by a streetlight. In the first frame Jerry asks, “Kramer, what’s going on in there?” The second frame is a screenshot of a stock portfolio graph where all tickers are negative and bright red. In the final frame Kramer says, “It’s a trade war, Jerry.”

wake up after a bad night of sleep: 🙁 add a little reading progress popover to my site: 🙂
A screenshot of a browser with the https://cyberb.space home page loaded. A popover is visible, and everything behind it is slightly blurred. The pop up contains the following text: 'The Books of Jacob by Olga Tokarczuk on p216 of 965 (22.6%)" below the text is stylized progress bar.

Writing’s a bit rough today, so I groan and sigh in frustration. My little gremlin sniffs and gives me this look. He’s trying to fit in his afternoon nap, if I could just keep it down please and thank you.
An impossibly cute small dog is spread out luxuriously on a floral patterned armchair. He looks directly at the camera in a calmly annoyed way.

I recently learned that some independent bookshops ship to any U.S. address — including diplomatic pouch addresses. This is very dangerous knowledge. Anyway much love to the people at @pilsencommbooks.bsky.social for beautifully gift wrapping the order!
A picture of a stack of books wrapped in brown paper and wrapped with multicolored twine and a bookmark. Stamped onto the paper is the name of the bookstore “Pilsen Community Books” and the phrase “A better world is possible”. The text frames an illustration of a rose.

Been down a mildly obsessive rabbit hole lately around faith-based apps that rely heavily on "GenAI" to "strengthen your relationship with God" and just gotta say... this stuff sucks. Were I in a eschatological mood, I might think "Exhaiith the fuleaps" was a phrase meant to summon the end times.
A soulless cartoon of a family generated by a machine. Below the pseudo-idyllic scene the non-sensical phrase "EXHAIITH THE FULEAPS" is written as if it's supposed to mean something.

Continuing to tinker with the bookshelf & individual book pages on my personal site. Here's an example for a recent book's dedicated page that includes all of the sections I'd like to standardize at some point.
A screenshot of a web page from https://cyberb.space. The page header reads "Booklog: The Search for the Perfect Language" and it includes a photograph of a hand holding a book with the spine facing the camera. To the right of the picture is information about when the book was read and a short review. Below the picture is a section labeled "details" that lists the publisher, page count, and isbn of the book in question.

I was a doubter at first, that’s almost too poetic to be true. But Merriam-Webster confirms it.
A screenshot of the Merriam-Webster webpage for the word “fiction” under the section “etymology” it reads:
“Middle English ficcioun "invention of the mind," borrowed from Middle French fiction, borrowed from Latin fiction-, fictio
"action of shaping or molding, feigning, pretense, legal fiction," from fig-, variant stem of fingere "to mold, fashion, make a likeness of, pretend to be" + -tion-, -tio, suffix of verbal action — more at FEIGN”

Slapped a new coat of paint on my digital bookshelf this morning 📚💅
A screen shot of the web page https://cyberb.space/shelf/. It shows two black boxes overlaid with white text under the section heading "Currently Reading" and below that, in a section titled "Read" it shows seven black boxes overlaid with white text under the heading "2025".

By way of example, here I am reading a recent Biblioklept post. My aesthetics have transcended the modern web.
A screenshot of the obsidian app's new web viewer. It shows a blogpost with reader mode turned on, which renders it as simply a large white page with some monospaced text.

Wow, AGI is just around the corner! I asked ChatGPT to show me how it thinks I spent the holidays and it generated this image.

Incredible! I asked ChatGPT "based on how well you know me, what do you think my workspace looks like?" and it generated this picture.
A still from the movie Office Space. Peter Gibbons has just unscrewed a wall of his cubicle so that he can see a window and he sits happily playing video games on his computer.

Here’s the thing. You shouldn’t anthropomorphize large language models. It’s uncouth. Instead when interacting with one you should always picture Joseph Faber’s Euphonia machine from the 19th century. As God intended you to.
An old photograph of the 19th century artificial speaking device in question. It is a table with an oddly arranged wind instrument mounted on top. Facing the camera is the output of the wind instrument, a mannequin face made to look like a young woman. She appears to be quite blaze about the whole affair.
