Went out for another long walk, looking for For Rent signs, high on mocha at Provisions. Gorgeous weather, the trees are beautiful, and I keep running into people: Met Mr/Mrs @wacso.bsky.social at long last. I still waver between being enthralled with this area and grief/rage at losing it.

This is where I live. For seven more weeks. Someone with a lot of money decided he needed it, and my home, more than I do.

Getting started on packing. Little things, things I haven't touched in years, decorations, crap like that. Took down my Writers Wall. I'm not a writer anymore, this inspires nothing. I don't think I'll put it up at the new place.
A collection of postcards on a wall, pictures of writers like Mark Twain, Edgar Allan Poe, WH Auden, Kurt Vonnegut, Samuel Beckett, James Joyce, Gertrude Stein and Alice B Toklas, Toni Morrison, James Baldwin, Zora Neale Hurston, and many others.

Meh. Someone parked too close to my Vespa, tore through the rain cover to scrape the front hub. I bought a replacement cover, but gods only know how much longer I'll have the scooter at all. If you have to ask whether they left a note, I fear for your safety in public.

Yesterday I grilled in the rain, supporting a friend's art pop-up as she sold weaving and original prints. Another friend asked if she could sell floral arrangements, and each of them did very well. I grilled Reykjavik-style hot dogs with homemade remúlaði, relaxed with an Icelandic lager.
Three dressed hot dogs rest on a package of buns. They are beef franks in plain buns, with sweet brown mustard, ketchup, remúlaði, and fresh and fried onions.A large drinking horn rests in an iron stand, on a table covered in a beautiful blue and purple batik tablecloth. The horn is full of beer, frothing over, and nearby is a blue can of Einstök Arctic Lager.

This tracing of the woman in the poster and the clip-art cat do suggest something outside my framework of fear. Would love to learn what that M means, seriously.

This weekend was my first time up in Grand Marais. I attended a blacksmithing course at North House Folk School, where I made various grilling implements, plus a ladle and spoon for my copper-loving wife. No matter how much time I spent hiking around Lake Superior, it was never enough.

LOOK AT ALL THIS FREAKIN' BASIL I've already done the ribbons-in-olive-oil ice cube tray trick. I've already thrown it into sandwiches and made pesto. I've given away so much. Today? I don't know, all I can do is wash it, try it out, stuff it all into the dehydrator. Running out of ideas.

Momentarily breaking my hiatus for two important announcements. One: I've successfully smoked baby back ribs and brisket on my WSM cooker. Two: Bluesky now allows us to hide others' reposts. Either of these is cause for celebration. Together? The needle drifts toward summum bonum.

Missing my Bella. She was put down two years ago in June, cancer in her jaw. Lately she's been visiting. Rebecca felt her hop up on my side of the bed. I heard her push the office door open like she used to. I thought I saw her walk down the hall. I hope she's not holding herself back.

I woke up with The Scorpions's "Crossfire" (1984) in my head. I was about to complain about hitting a new low: the ability to say "I haven't heard that song in 40 years." But then I remembered the alternative, a pill I grudgingly swallow.

The Instagram account on their marketing image is nonfunctional. I was followed by eversteel10 and eversteel54. Their IG bio is clearly hoping to move into the Viking market. The social media links on their website point back to Shopify, and they link to goods they don't offer.

Multiple accounts for "EverSteel" are following me on #Instagram. I knew it was a scam bot campaign before I even saw the image, clearly generated by AI. It's just a simple cash-grab as people purchase orders and receive shoddy crap or nothing at all. I'll report it, and Instagram will do nothing.

I was describing to my mom how I've been making meals for my wife that are interesting and delicious in spite of working around her food allergies. To prove to her that it can be done, that it's an option. Then my mom decided she wanted that too, so I grilled her ribeye with mushrooms and onions.

After a week of vacation, my Friday was packed with wrapping up work tasks. Scooted to the co-op for groceries, prepped the veggies, then grilled dinner. Wolfed mine down, boxed up half and scooted it up to my wife at work, then raced out to Saint Paul to see Skáld perform. Big evening.
