At this year's NY Climate Week, the biggest positive change I saw wasn't the buzz about some new technology or policy. It was people finally realizing that talking about climate is where action starts! Talking about climate isn't optional. It's where change begins 💚

Electricity is taxed. Labor for oil change is not taxed. No emissions testing outside ATL. Reg is cheap for ICE. Besides, this argument is about the frequent suspension of the gas tax while the EV road tax has never been suspended. If EVs pay a fair share (they do and more) is a different argument.

I agree EV drivers should pay a road tax, but so should ICE drivers. Only the latter keep getting their tax suspended.

EV owners in Ga are charged a $238 annual road tax. It’s supposed to make up for the gas tax we’re not paying, but in many cases, mine included, works out to be far higher than what I’d pay to drive the same distance in a gas-powered vehicle. It’s never been suspended. In fact, it keeps increasing.

100%! The climate doesn't care if we are Democrats or Republicans: When we mess with it, it messes with us (and it bats last). Most Americans are concerned about climate change. Let's set aside partisan differences & solve this problem before it messes more with what we love. @katharinehayhoe.com

I don’t understand the hand-wringing reaction to claims that nueral networks have a 10% chance of destroying civilisation. Fossil fuel companies have a 100% chance of initiating a mass extinction event. Maybe we could address that?

I resigned from ExxonMobil today. I spent the last three years doing fossil fuel extraction research at both BP and ExxonMobil. Neither company is acting responsibly. They are racing to maximize extraction while the window to act closes, and gambling with our lives. More below.

@grayflood.bsky.social: We need to replace our current approach to addressing cost-shifting by data centers–bespoke BYOG contracts and large load tariffs with their "myopic calculation of cost-causation"—with a federal data center excise tax & general fund transfers paid into a Grid Trust Fund.

GA residents are grappling w the likely impacts of OpenAI's proposed data center outside Savannah. USC's Sanders: there's "no free lunch" with the proposed closed loop cooling system. It would use less water, but the big fans that eject heat from the buildings would use "a lot" of electricity.

Reducing the water use on site at the proposed OpenAI data center will drive up its power-related water consumption offsite, experts say.

Not sure if everyone appreciates the difference. Rooftop solar hardwires into your main panel via a dedicated breaker, so it requires a permit, an installer, an electrician, and a utility agreement. Balcony solar just plugs into a wall outlet, sharing an existing circuit with no permits or rewiring.
