A professor at University of Chicago, Nicholas Polson, has written over 258 papers in 2026 (~6 papers a day, many are submitted to journals or published in journals). The topics spans pure math, econometrics, computer science, population genetics, ML etc www.washingtonpost.com/education/20...

Using AI, a professor wrote 200 papers this year. Researchers are alarmed.
An online platform removed 257 papers written or co-written by the University of Chicago’s Nicholas Polson after other academics raised questions.

I had similar thoughts yesterday. Students may be discouraged from studying maths by the false impression the subject can be dealt with by algorithms. Same may be true with all subjects if the impression is that all knowledge related questions can be answered by magic boxes bsky.app/profile/amka...

Some people tend to save too much over their lives on their expectation of having to spend for life saving private medical expenses. What they don't take into consideration is that more often than not these won't be life saving while spending reasonably more over your lifespan can be life changing.

Being frugal in life helps accumulating capital *if there are many things you can be frugal about* Saving $10k over the course of decades whilst being frugal on the only small thing you can be frugal about is too much effort for little reward.

For example, if the models are jumping around quite a lot, making guesses until they get lucky, then there will be less to be learned from failed attempts than if they are arriving at proofs by a gradual process of modification of an initially proposed argument.

While education can indeed been bought, it does affect performance (but does not determine it) and potential *conditional to having received it*. The fact that many are unfortunate not to have access to good education doesn't negate the fact that those having it become generally better performers
