I wrote another thing for @religiondispatches.org about Chris Smalls. Demand justice. Share his name. Expose this assault. And hold accountable every coward & collaborator who chooses comfort in the empire over solidarity with the oppressed. Chris Smalls is not alone. He deserves to be seen. ✊🏾

Trying out Horde Kings of Dakkar now. I think I'll be on junkfood reads for the rest of the year. I'm exhausted down to my bone marrow.

Across all 3 series, some things are too slow and then other aspects of the story are rushed. Otherwise, she's a solid writer and I'm looking forward to the rest of Ice Planet Clones.

Finally: Ice Planet Clones. I think this is self-explanatory i.t.o. who/what the new characters are. 3/5. The storyline is becoming a bit stale at this point, but I loved the twists with Corvak's story. Ruby Dixon needs a new editor to help not just with typos, but overall pacing.

Next up: Icehome. Did you think 3/5 was gonna turn me away from Not-Hoth? Think again! Now we don't have just barbarians, we have a whole menagerie of wackiness. 4/5. I liked the stories more and the new characters added a great dynamic. Editing still needs some polishing.

First up: Ice Planet Barbarians. I read the main stories, not the honeymoon books or the holiday specials. Overall, 3/5. Cute stories, loveable barbarians, but the editing could use some work.

My junkfood reads the past few months have been... Something. Deets in thread, all spoiler-free.

The world is burning, and my regular financial donations to various causes feel like I'm doing nothing more than spitting on the flames. But our rescued cat has cuddled with me this entire weekend and purred louder when I kissed her head while she sat on my lap. So that's what I'm focusing on.

I see she's fully funded, so I donated to the three other girls that were available on the link. Just want to take a second to say that Cytopoint was a game changer for our little one. Hopefully Louise gets some relief soon ❤️

I don't think anyone outside the US considers that "small" 😂 I drive an Audi A1, and would consider it "normal" sized.

A digital illustration compares the side profiles of a dark grey Audi A1 (foreground) and a lighter grey Chevrolet Bolt (partially visible in the background). The Audi A1 appears slightly shorter and lower than the Bolt. Dimension lines and text labels indicate the "Real height" of the Audi A1 as 1.422 m, noting it is "+19.3 cm" shorter than the Chevrolet Bolt's height of 1.615 m. Similarly, the "Real length" of the Audi A1 is labelled as 3.973 m, noting it is "+33.2 cm" shorter than the Chevrolet Bolt's length of 4.305 m. Small silhouette icons of cars are arranged at the bottom, with the second icon from the left highlighted in black, representing the current view. Text at the very bottom reads "Street perspective vs. specification: See Disclaimer."

These Duolingo animations are becoming progressively more unhinged

A screenshot from the Duolingo app showing a summary of the completed lesson. The main text says "Practice complete!" and there are three blocks highlighting total XP (10), accuracy rating (amazing - 100%), and lesson time (blazing - 0:31). Below them is a button that says "Claim XP". The unhinged part of the screenshot is the green Duolingo owl making a face similar to The Scream by Edvard Munch, Duo's brain has popped out of his skull and is making the same face.

I tried, I really did, but this is a DNF. I read Fourth Wing, Iron Flame, Onyx Storm, and started We Need to Talk About Kevin while I got through half of this book. Excellent premise, but way too many facts just thrown at you. I'm also not the biggest fan of footnotes.

I have no idea who this man is, but I used to follow him on Twitter and I follow him here because he reminds me that there is still good in this world. I wish him nothing but the best, and I hope he inspires others to follow suit.

I've just finished chapter 10 of Mindf*ck and all I keep thinking is "why does this man STILL have a Facebook account???" Also, this book is excellent, but did anyone else need a small break between chapters? It's so overwhelming how fucked up everything was. I feel like I need to digest the info.

Towards the end of our girl's life, we were spending R10,000 (±£860 when adjusted for PPP) every 2-3 weeks on emergency vet visits. We're very fortunate to be in a dual income household and both incomes are high, but we were also prepared to take out loans if need be. It's tough when they're aging 🥺

Is there really no spin-off series planned for Emonie and Ryatt? The two of them trying to repair the bridge and falling in love along the way?

100

Ctrl Alt Revolt @ctrlaltrevolt.bsky.social · 11/01/2025

We aren't gonna address the fact that Emonie is obsessed with Ryatt?

Ctrl Alt Revolt @ctrlaltrevolt.bsky.social · 11/01/2025

Are we really gonna ignore the fact that Ryatt finally became the commander of Fourth's army and then got trapped in Annwyn? Surely this man is on a mission to find a way back?

Have y'all noticed that it's mostly white people who are upset about NHI in South Africa? 🤔 For some reason, white people are very comfortable complaining to me about our government and they are SHOCKED when I say I'm not worried about the NHI. Go be racist with someone else, I'm tired.

If a book has a movie/series adaptation, I'm a firm believer in watching the movie/series before reading the book. If you prefer the book, then it's just a nice pleasant surprise and you aren't disappointed with the movie/series. This is why I haven't read Dune yet, I promise.

800 million people live in the southern hemisphere. Summer in the south is winter in the north. Plea to academics to stop using ‘spring’ etc as a universal timekeeper. Just say the actual month/date of the deadline. 🙏
