CBC's July 1 press release cites a study which "determined that the probability of a strike event [being fatal] is 20% at 9 knots, 50% at 11.8 knots, 80% at 15.3 knots, and nearly 100%…above 15.3 knots." Ovation of the Seas ran at over 15 kts from Skagway to Seward except near one glacier.
This is a map showing Ovation of the Seas course and speeds on its June 17 to 19, 2026 run from Skagway, Alaska through Icy Strait (and past the mouth of Glacier Bay) and up the outer coast to a Glacier visit near the village of Yakutat (Russel Fiord), and on along the top of the Gulf of Alaska and into Resolute Bay and, there, the cruise terminal at the city of Seward. The map's legend has speed categories of less than 10 knots (blue line), 10 to 12 knots (yellow line), 12 to 15 knots (orange line), and more than 15 knots (red line).

The Center for Biological Diversity, which authored the map, measured the ship's speed from the ships own internet-reported AIS transponder data, which is available online.

The Ovation of the Seas traveled at greater than 15 knots (red lines) for this entire voyage, except for a very short distance at the glacier (short blue line).
