As long as I can remember, immigration has been an issue for both sides of the aisle to get votes. If you actually look at our immigration system, it is nonsense with a fast track specifically to benefit wealthy corporations. As long as it can be used to get votes, there is no incentive to fix it.

I grew up in Dayton, OH, and I spent a lot of weekends with my dad on Lake Erie fishing. He was an Aerographers Mate (meteorologist) on an aircraft carrier in the Navy, and we wouldn't head to the lake if the radio said the conditions would be bad. That radio was a giant part of my childhood.

I am disabled due to US healthcare. Had I lived here in Germany after my cancer treatments in 2005, I would be perfectly healthy. Much needs to change.

Maybe decline to try ridiculous lawsuits or even disbar the lawyers who filed them. That would reduce the need for a lot of insurance.

I would be curious to see what percentage of people for or against AI are religious or atheist and in which direction they lean.

AI is the Gyges' ring of student work: it offers perfect concealment of wrongdoing. If Glaucon is right, then everyone will use it to do injustice (cheat), & will be wise to do so. If Socrates/Plato is right, then doing so also harms the wrong-doer, whose soul will be malformed into misery by it.

Have you visited? How are your foreign language skills? What were you thinking that you would do for work? These are important questions to ask yourself. You might want to look into the work visa requirements where it is you would like to live.

Yeah, I couldn't tell you how many concerts I saw in other cities when I studied here. I live here now, and that hasn't changed. In the US, people have been prosecuted because they let their child walk around their own neighborhood alone, whereas here 1st graders regularly take the bus to school.

No, but the schedules were more like university than high school in the US. You would have free time during the day to do whatever.

To be clear, the reading was only in my English and German classes. I had no homework at all in my other classes (Spanish, Art, Music, Math, History, Science, etc.). This was 1991-1992, and I was in the 12th grade in a 13 grade school system.

Here in Germany, kids either don't or rarely have homework. In my experience as an exchange student, we never did other than to read books which we were quizzed about in class and tested on when we had finals.

Research units from across government have been gutted. More than 10,000 PhDs have left government. For example the research arm of the Department of Education lost 90% of their staff and the research office for the Secretary of Health and Human Services lost an estimated 60% of their staff.

Deliberately crashing the American economy—costing American families well over $5,000 each—and then promising to pay those families back $5,000 but *only if* they keep letting him abuse them and the country for two more years... ...is some *seriously* dark, domestic-abuser shit.
