I just realized, I never posted this here. An artwork I did for my husband for his birthday in April ♥ Featuring both of our DnD characters, Vil'Laelar and San'ri. #art #DigitalArt #illustration #DnD #DnDart #OCs #OCart #drow

A digital drawing of a cindersoul elemental woman, San'ri, hugging a drow man, Vil'Laelar, from behind. She says, "Oh, I can tell you've been through a lot!" Another speech bubble from Vil'Laelar says, "???"

A digital illustration of Isari'kyo from Whispers of the Past. He crosses his arms and peers to his right, his red hair and earrings blowing in the wind against a dawn sky.

No. Pay creatives their money to do what they do best and stop taking shortcuts with slop. No one wants to read that shit. If you can't afford to pay the costs in 2026 it takes to produce a graphic novel, you're not a publisher, you're broke and you need to pivot to something you can afford to do.

I definitely appreciate the sentiment and the difficult position people are in now when hiring, but I guess that means we all gotta make sure to add anti-AI wording to our portfolios now, a thing it has never occurred to me to do despite yelling about AI on social media constantly 🫠

In the case of those saying, "you shouldn't have trusted them anyways," I think comes from a place of deep hurt and disappointment of the past. The fate of Smackjeeves comes to mind... 😔

Cronaj - [Commissions OPEN (5/5)] @cronaj-art.com · 22/09/2026

For a lot of us older creators, unfortunately we have seen this before. A lot of us are just jaded now. But I do feel really bad for the younger creators who saw these platforms as their chance to share their work and grow a career. This whole situation sucks, and people mourn in different ways

so tapas getting closed down by a megacorp? that tracks. just completely. and i think people's defense is 'well you shouldn't have trusted them anyway', which is actually, kind of sad. we've all been burned too many times when all we want to do is share our art with our friends.

The whole publishing world is dying, being eaten from the inside by corporate greed. Now, they don't wanna take risks on people with good ideas and the skill the back it up. They just want to acquire IP AFTER it's already found success

151

Cronaj - [Commissions OPEN (5/5)] @cronaj-art.com · 22/09/2026

This is a reminder, folks, to self-host your comics and promote yourself. Because these comic aggregates don't care about you or your work, and they will likely all go the way of Smackjeeves and Tapas

If you want to see indie projects succeed, you have to spearhead the support for them. Talk openly about other people’s work and how much you like it, draw fanart, reshare content about the project, send it to a friend, leave comments on every update, donate money, etc.

Cronaj - [Commissions OPEN (5/5)] @cronaj-art.com · 22/09/2026

Forreal! I was literally just talking about this in my discord server. The popular IP bidding wars are crazy stupid when you could find a talented indie creator RIGHT THERE

Tapas further segregated it's creative community and did nothing to foster talent. Only the immediately successful get recognition, and then are further exploited. Which then begs the question - why would a successful creator even need a service like Tapas?

Trying to farm IP is the stupidest strategy to me. Ideas are a dime a dozen - what matters is the people and the talent and community. You don't get Steven Universe without Rebecca Sugar, and you don't get Rebecca Sugar without Adventure Time, and so on. That's mentorship and opportunity.
