The gate of Bishamontang, Emissary Santo, Yamashina District, Kyoto City

Framed by a blazing canopy of Japanese maples (momiji), a steep stone pathway (chokushimichi) rises toward a dark wooden gate, its steps completely buried beneath a thick carpet of scarlet foliage. Slender bamboo handrails flank the stone stairs, leading the eye along a dramatic linear perspective toward the imperial messenger gate at the crest of the slope. Overhead, interlocking branches filter the light, casting a warm crimson glow over the damp stone and moss-covered embankments. The scene evokes an intimate sensory atmosphere: the crisp mountain air of a Kyoto morning, the faint scent of damp moss and aged cedar, the soft crunch of fallen leaves underfoot, and the profound, reverent hush of an ancient temple precinct.
Located at Bishamon-do Temple in the Yamashina District of Kyoto, this approach—known as the chokushimichi (Imperial Messenger Path)—is renowned for its late-autumn sando (shrine approach), where fallen leaves form an iconic momiji no jūtan (maple carpet). Originally founded in 703 AD by the monk Gyōki and re-established at its present site in 1665, Bishamon-dō is a distinguished monozeki temple (traditionally presided over by members of the imperial family or high nobility). The Chokushimon Gate at the top of the stairs was reserved for official imperial envoys, reflecting the sanctuary's esteemed lineage. The seamless integration of stone masonry, timber architecture, and natural forest contours reflects the supreme craft of Japanese zōen (landscape architecture) and monozukuri (artisanal mastery), designed to celebrate the subtle shifts of the seasonal calendar.

#Smaugust 2 - Across the moonlit dunes (So what it’s a week into September) A dragon based on the cloth creatures in Journey #art #dragon

Digital art of a dragon made of red cloth with gold trim on the sides. The body is long with two pairs of wings, the cloth rippling and flowing as the dragon flies across a desert. The large sand dune forms a peak below the dragon, the left side bright under the light of the moon and the right side cast in shadow. The night sky is bright with stars and a full moon, also casting a soft blue glow on the dragon, some parts of the cloth glittering softly. Grains of sand swirl through the air, kicked up around the dragon’s path

Not really in line with what I usually post here, but I recently finished one of my first #needlefelting projects, the Unspeakable horror himself, #theKingInYellow! Very proud of how cute he came out. I'm still learning and having a lot of fun stabbing things.

Photo of a needled felted Eldritch horror: a little creature with a white, owl-like face and gold mantle and hood. About four inches tall.

Tim Curry and Dolly Parton have taught us not only that you should be bigger, weirder, gayer, and freakier, but also that those qualities are what people will love about you. The things that make you strange and amazing are the things that will resonate with other strange and amazing people

I think another lesson to take from the loss of both Dolly and Tim Curry is that neither of them took themselves seriously but they took the work dead serious that's the most important thing pour all of yourself into the craft but have fun and don't get an ego.

Don't you dare die on me - Commission | 31012026 #kcd #kcd2 #hansry

A digital illustration of the characters Henry and Hans from the game series "Kingdom Come:Deliverance". Henry's propped up on Hans leg, injured and bleeding through a cut close to his armpit, the trail of blood seeping into the snow. His expression is distant, but there's still some fragile life left in him. His helmet already lies abandoned, his weakened hand still encompasses his sword of a chilly, foggy forest. Hans is full of despair in his eyes as he helps Henry out of his cuirass to assess the injury. His fingers are covered in Henry's blood, leaving behind marks wherever he touched Henry - a ghost of it left behind on Henry's cheek as well.

a sword to forge, a cross to carry, a lucky star to share #kcd2 #hansry

a digital painting of hans and henry from
kingdom come deliverance games. they’re standing facing each other, with henry’s back turned to us. only the upper parts of their bodies are in the light. henry is keeping his right hand on a sword that’s red from smithing, his left hand is on hans’ right shoulder, left side of his face touching hans’ left temple. hans is holding a golden cross that hangs from his palm on a chain, it shines dimly. he’s looking down on it, hesitant. the background is bright blue, like the sky happens to be on a cloudless summer evening. the characters are bright too, with red and yellow accents where the light shines upon them. there’s a single four-pointed white star above their heads.
