Jimmy the cretan garden cat and his pet rock say hi!

A dusty ginger and white cat with a fluffy tail rolls round on a bit of cardboard box with one paw stuck upon the air waving at you

it was nearly 40 degrees here in east Crete this afternoon but mum cat and her daughter Kali decided they needed to cuddle!

Basilea (on the right)- a medium size calico cat with black and orange splotches on her white coat is cuddled up next to her 15 month old daughter Kali - on the left - who is also a calico but with slightly more orange splotches than black.

Bob has a public service announcement - keep cool everyone!

A black and white photo of a dark grey tabby and white cat with a tipped ear sitting on a cool mat and looking up at the camera. It is currently 36 degrees here in east Crete so he has the right idea!

Soo cat has woken up and checked the news … He is going back to sleep until next #caturday in the hopes things will improve.

A head on view of a mainly white cat with black markings over his eyes and ears and a white tip to his black tail. He is standing on a wooden outdoor table peering through some green jasmine shoots. His ears are almost flattened and his tail is starting to form a question mark. I am going to have to stop him doomscrolling aren’t I?

18th century "cat contract" (納貓兒契式; based on a Yuan-dynasty original), laying out the cat's duties and responsibilities: tirelessly guarding the grain, repelling the "mousey bandits" (鼠賊), not messing with the livestock, not stealing numnums "of any kind whatsoever" (不得偷盜食諸般).

Scan of a two-page spread with an illustration of a rather pissed off-looking cat and the text of a 納貓兒契式 'Cat Acquisition Contract Template' surrounding it in a spiral. From 銜蟬小錄 Xianchan xiaolu, "A Record of Cicada-Nommers," a Qing-dynasty compendium of all things cat.

Soo cat didn't want his photo taken ...

A mainly white cat with black markings round his ears and eyes is rolling around on his back on a dining chair. He has just noticed the phone pointing at him and both paws are lashing out at it (they are moving so fast they have blurred in the photo) and his mouth is open wide showing a pink tongue and very sharp teeth!

1st June καλό μήνα from Crete - we also celebrate 'Pip Day' on this day in our house because 3 years ago we found a tiny little ginger scrap in the middle of a nearby road. He was suffering from a respiratory infection and had lost one eye. 3 years later he is ruling the roost!

this is Pip cat the day after we found him. He is a small (about 6 week old) striped ginger kitten. he is sitting on my leg and looking up at me. His bushy white whiskers are catching the light. The eye on the left of the photo is completely missing and the eye on the right is bulging out of the socket. At this point he appeared to have no usable sight.

This is Pip today - three years later. he is lying half asleep on a navy blue hand towel. Only his head and shoulders appear in the photo. His missing eye can't really be seen because he is lying on that side but our lovely vet cleaned it up and stitched it. His other eye amazingly recovered to give him a reasonable amount of vision though it does have a fairly large cataract. His bushy white whiskers aren't quite so bristly and kittenish any more but they are still quite impressive. He is resting against a bright red knitted cat cushion

Bob may have had too good a night in the plateia last night ...

Bob cat agrees - it was a busy evening in the plateia last night so he has decided to sleep at home this morning

a mainly silver grey tabby cat with white paws and underbelly is curled up in a round cream colour fleece cat bed which is in a round wicker basket - one eye is half open glaring at you!

Its been 28 degrees outside in east Crete but Kali cat still wants her knitted pillow to sleep on ...

A small calico cat is asleep in a pile of cushions with her head resting on a home knitted long cylindrical bright red cushion and a white front paw stretched out along the side of it

Happy #caturday Tili says does anyone else need a second cup of coffee? (It's OK - it wasn't my coffee cup - just some water!)

A white cat with black ears and upper face sits on the breakfast table licking her left paw after dipping it into a pink mug. Behind her the open balcony door is letting in the sun and light breeze of a cretan morning.

Kali and Pip are trying out a new career as bookends

This is a black and white photo showing a small calico cat (Kali otherwise known as the evil weevil) on the left hand side lying with her ears nearly touching a book. On the right hand side of the book is a very stripy ginger tabby, one eyed Pip who is curled up with his head to the left, resting on his paws. The paws are nearly touching the book - in fact they were when I grabbed my phone to take the photo). The book is A Thousand Ships by nataliehaynes@bluesky.social which I will continue reading when they let me have it back!

Marten has given up and says being eaten by the shark is preferable. (Please note no cats were harmed in the taking of this photo, and even the shark came out of it in one piece)

a small ginger and white cat is lying on his back in the mouth of a shark shaped grey cat nest. The big white teeth of the shark are about to close on him leaving just a back paw and his head hanging out.

Happy New Year! I don't know what is going on here, I only left them for an hour ...

two almost full grown cats (brothers) are on a dining chair. Black and white Soo is in his characteristic pose on his back and might have a front paw on Martens neck. Fluffy ginger and white Marten is the 'right' way up, looking up at the camera with his mouth wide open. Grinning? Grimacing? Singing? Who can say ...

it must have been a good boxing day party at ours, sorry I missed it

a solid looking light wood coloured coffee table is standing on a red and ochre rug, laptop and phone are on top of the coffee table and there is a large mug of coffee out of sight. On the rug under the table the back half of a mainly white cat with a black tail can be seen , he is lying flat out on his back, legs akimbo. Its alright darling, I have found Soo cat!

happy Christmas from the ginger cat department - Ginger and Marten are curled up together on a cushion waiting for Christmas lunch!

two ginger and white cats with medium fluffy coats are curled up almost yin&yang style on a cushion. They are both asleep and therefore totlly innocent of whatever has been done in the last 24 hours

"Paint me like one of your French girls ..." Vasilea (Queenie to her friends and Mum cat to the kittens) is posing ...

A fairly podgy fluffy calico mum cat is posing, semi reclining on a blue and white cotton blanket against a maroon and gold cushion. She has been interrupted in the middle of having a good wash and her face tells you she is not happy about it!

happy Saturday from Kali the microcat who is on fly catching duty today

A small calico cat crouches to the right of the photograph with her right paw raised, She is focused on something happening just above the white and blue cat drinking fountain on the left of the photo. From her pose it is probably the fly she has spent all morning trying to catch. The mid morning sun is coming through the window behind her and lighting up her whiskers

Soo fortunately has stayed completely unaware - though to be fair that is his normal condition.

a mainly white male cat with black ears and rail is spreadeagled on his back, all four paws akimbo. He is lying on a tiled floor in front of the balcony doors. his eyes are closed and his left front paw is tucked under his chin.

And a happy second 'gotcha' day to PipSqueak - 1st June 2023 we found a poor little almost blind, sick ginger kitten the middle of the road. Look what a handsome boy he is now!

A small ginger kitten (about 6 weeks old according to the vet) is perched on my leg, one eye is missing completely and the other is bulging with what is probably an ulcer. He has been cleaned and towelled down and is looking a bit better than he did when we rescued him off the street a couple of hours before. He might be scrappy looking but he has gorgeous white whiskers!

This is the same kitten 2 years later, he is sitting outside in his harness. He is alert and looking of to the left of the photo, his eye closest to the viewer is deep amber. This is the one that had a bad ulcer, he has been left with a cataract so he doesn't have full vision but enough to see movement and so on. He is looking positively chunky but still hav=s those wonderful white whiskers!

The other day, a friend of mine sent me a pic of a feral cat on a bit of a rampage. (Kitty is fine, he was just very upset.) The pic looked so much like a motivational poster, I had to make it into one. (Might have to click to see the text I added.)

Picture is a white cat with black spots on top of an indoor catio, sitting on the fencing between it and the ceiling. The cat is near a window that shows a blue sky and a tree. Picture is taken from below. Text across the top reads "Climb for your dreams" and text across the bottom reads "Pee on your obstacles."
