Canada is seeking new global neighbours – no wonder, as Trump rolls out stupidities at scale | David Moscrop
As the White House doles out threats and insults, it would be easy to hold out for better times. Mark Carney is right to court the EU instead, says Canadian columnist David Moscrop

What if AI lets us talk to animals? Scientists are getting closer, raising uncomfortable questions about privacy, manipulation and whether humans should answer back.

Talking to Animals Is AI’s Next Ethical Minefield
AI could transform our understanding of other species. It also risks giving humans powerful new ways to manipulate, exploit and harm them.

I've seen everyone sharing that US Dialect Quiz so I decided to make my own, much crappier, CANADIAN DIALECT QUIZ to guess where in Canada you're from
A flow chart I have created with multiple questions and the answers determine where you're from.

Question 1 is do you call it a hydro bill (which then branches down to ON, QC, BC, MB) or an electric bill (which then branches down to SK, AB, NS, NB, PEI, NL)

Question 2 is do you call it a cabin (BC, MB, AB, SK) cottage (ON and atlantic) camp (northern Ontario) chalet (QC) or bungalow (Cape Breton)

To delineate BC from MB: do you call it dinner or supper

To delineate southern Ontario rural or big city: have you heard of a stag & doe

To delineate SK from AB: do you call a hoodie a bunnyhug

And finally to delineate NL from the other atlantic provinces: whaddayat? (Correct answer: dis is it b'y)

This is a picture of two women from the Vernon Cadet Training Centre, which holds summer programming for 12-18 year olds to develop skills on the way to adulthood. Unlike Secretary Hegseth, they do not deserve contempt or ridicule.

I want to go back in time to, say, 2012, to tell people that Blue Rodeo's Hasn't Hit Me Yet would become a nationalist anthem after President Donald Trump renamed Lake Ontario.

Hard to imagine a more perfect recipe for boosting Canadian nationalism than a trade war with the Americans escalating on the same weekend everyone is reminiscing about the Tragically Hip's last show. If TSN re-aired Game 8 of the '72 Summit Series, we'd probably fall into a patriotic sugar coma.

Millions tune in for three-week live stream of Sweden’s moose migration
Slow TV is attracting viewers with hits such as a knitting marathon, burning firewood and swimming salmon Most of the time, nothing much happens. A wide Nordic river, melting snow still lining its banks, meanders peacefully through a pristine forest of spruce and pine. But this spring, as every spring for the past six years, a lot of people will be glued to it. When Den stora älgvandringen – variously translated as The Great Moose Migration or The Great Elk Trek – first aired on the public broadcaster SVT’s on-demand platform in 2019, nearly a million people tuned in. Last year, it was 9 million. Continue reading...
