That's so scary.

I know that Elon Musk gets a lot of hate on here, but hear me out. I think we could hate him more. We have the capacity, we all just need to put in a little more effort.

After very little deliberation, I finally flushed my #LinkedIn account down the toilet. Permanent deletion. Poof! Nearly 500 connections which never helped me with anything after decades of work. You should do it, too. Stop giving your personal info away! […] [Original post on hear-me.social]

A schoolgirl in breads, a sweater and will skirt looks out a schoolhouse window into an apparent gray day. Two captions appear.

Caption 1: Once the weather gets warmer, I'll be unstoppable.

Caption 2: Unless it gets too warm. Then I'll be stoppable again.

Doesn't this sound familiar? It should. The power structures that benefit from disregarding evidence around UBIs... Are the same power structures that benefit from disregarding proof about toxic fossil fuels heating our atmosphere. It was never about the evidence. It was always about power. 5/5

And the ugly: People who are marginalised based on their race, ethnicity, disability, chronic illness, neurodivergence, or a combination are likely to get the fewest opportunities, and therefore end up with less wealth. Prejudice protects power. Prejudice justifies intergenerational wealth. (4/5)

Prejudice. The people who inherited immense intergenerational wealth and power must deserve it, because they are smart and work hard. Those without must clearly be lacking in both and deserve nothing. (Even if grinding them down costs society more than just giving them a home or income.) (3/5)

Welfare cruelty was never about efficacy or saving money. It was about power. More specifically, it was always about justifying why some people "deserve" to inherit immense power and wealth, while others have nothing. How can such a power structure be justified? (2/5)

The good news: The empirical evidence is piling up. Giving people a basic income and public housing saves a range of medical, policing, court, and prison costs. It's more humane, effective, and cheaper than mutual obligation. The bad news: The issue was never cost, efficacy, or evidence. (1/5)
