2/ Half the acquisitive crime in the UK is drug-related - people stealing to feed their habit. Decriminalising would put an end to all but the most determined dealer/importation OCG's & free up law enforcement resources. When I say "defund the police", this is what I mean.

If possession of drugs was treated as a social health issue - which it is - rather than a criminal offence, with users registered with their GP's/pharmacists and safely "weaned off" as best they could via the NHS, Starmer wouldn't need to cut juries to get rid of the court backlog 1/

This is still a conservative estimate from direct deaths with verified remains. It also doesn't include deaths from disease, starvation, and other causes that were indirect. The death toll is likely 3-4 times as high. Even with that, this is still 3% of the total population killed.
