Here me out. Instead of Tom Cruise doing a Bob Odenkirk impression, why not just cast Bob Odenkirk? #Digger

Boomer logic: There should be police on every street in London. My rebuttal: That would require 130,000 police officers. The Met only has 34,000 and to do so would cost at least £9bn. Double the current total Met budget. Boomer response: we did it in the 70s and there was less crime. I give up.

What did everyone think of Joe Carnahan's The Rip? I really enjoyed it. It was pretty good for the first hour and then got very good for the rest. My only criticism is the near impossible to hear/understand dialogue, punctuated by deafening gun shots. Had to resort to subtitles.

As much as I like Bluesky, and it is obviously better than the other platform. There is near zero engagement on here. Everyone sticks to their 'Following' tab and ignores 'Discover'. Follow numbers are set, tribes have been found. Static from here on out. Not much point really.

I have thoughts on Harlan Coben's Run Away, but don't want to spoil anything. All I will say is, bullet wounds have very inconsistent consequences.

It is why he is called 'Bubblegum Yaga'. I truly don't know why people turn off comments and quote posts on BlueSky. Everyone on here is nice and there is proper oversight.

If AI massively improves productivity. And GDP measures productivity. Why is GDP in the gutter?

Stranger Things now has so many characters they have written themselves into a momentum black hole. Watching it is like pulling teeth. So bored.

I wish I had seen Sinners in the cinema. Partly because the cinematography is gorgeous. But mostly because you all massively oversold it. It is a really good film. That's it, no more. Not some masterpiece that should be winning all the oscars. Just a really good film. And that is great.

The Great Flood is a truly excellent film. I know people knock Netflix originals, and sometimes rightly so. Trust me, this one is amazing. Instantly one of my favourite films of the year.

I did indeed binge through all of Amadeus. Amazing adaptation. Superb new layering at the end. I hope this gets a 4K release so I can watch it without the pesky adverts distrupting the flow.

Just finished episode 1 of Amadeus. This is amazing. I might have to binge the whole thing. The cast is great but Paul Bettany is working on whole other level, there is a certain irony in that. @joebarton.bsky.social never misses!

Not impressed with the current Google algorithm. It seems the new playbook for SEO is to put an entire novel on one page. Google seems to favour length over userability. It offers nothing useful to the user, just people gaming the algorithm.

YouTube A/B testing the position of the like buttons is getting really tedious now. Nobody cares, one is not going to significantly get more engagement than the other, it just needs to be consistent.

When did watches get so expensive? I haven't bought a watch in 20+ years. Just looking for an every day watch for about £50. Went to Bluewater, not a watch under £200 (other than a Swatch at £135). I am not looking for a Patek Philippe for crying out loud. A Casio would do.

Aside from keeping the freeze on the tax thresholds, I don't see anything bad in that budget. Felt more like not making things worse than actually making things better, but time will tell. Glad the two child benefit cap was removed. No good comes from kids in poverty.

This Making Tax Digital (MTD) malarkey really winds me up. "You will need to: get commercial software that works with Making Tax Digital". So I need to pay for software to have the priveledge of paying HMRC! It's outrageous, they should offer the software for free, or deduct the cost from my tax

Eden is superb, easily one of Ron Howard's best. I didn't know he directed going in, actually surprised as it shows more depth than most of his work. Could have been a classic but ruined Ana de Armas. Don't want to be mean, but I just don't get it. Awful in almost everything.

The thing with the perfect stew is that it can never be recreated. It is made up of ingredients left over from other meals. Far too expensive to buy just for a stew. Quite random in what is available and never a note taken. Unique and wonderful.

Finally got a 4K player. Of course Blade Runner was my first purchase. At this point more of a spiritual experience than a movie. Like going to a sermon at a church. Sublime. Transcendental even.

I’m sorry but there’s no way I can remember who anyone is if you release tv shows weekly. Even if it was postman pat I’d forget his name and his job. Our brains are rotted and there’s no going back so either put it all out at once or don’t bother putting it out at all.

Has anyone seen Les Misérables on the stage? Is it as bad as the film? I am 30mins in and I honestly think they are taking the piss. Like a comedy sketch mocking musicals as a format.
