This point needs to be made over and again: The main purpose of wealth taxes should not be to raise revenue. That's a small and secondary benefit. The main purpose should be to *reduce the fortunes of the ultrarich*. Why? Because those fortunes present a massive threat to democracy and public life.

I connect this directly to the "trauma" of ppl who have to tell their children what a trans person is, or who have to read pronouns in an e-mail sig. I wasn't there then, but I'm sure whites were complaining about the "trauma" of desegregated bathrooms 60 years ago. It's not new, really.

The National Nurses Union called for a week of action in honor of Pretti, who worked as an ICU nurse in a Minneapolis VA hospital. “ICE messed with the wrong profession,” the union wrote in a statement. “We nurses will fight to abolish ICE and bring about a vision for a healthy society based on nurses’ values of caring, compassion, and community.” One nurse protest took place at Oakland’s Kaiser Medical Center on Monday.

we've talked a lot about how comparing these guys to slave catchers is more accurate than third reich comparisons are, and this is a big part of it. antebellum slavers broke up enslaved people's families to pacify them, frequently. that is exactly what ICE does.
