$4 million spent on this brochure… added to the $200 million referendum price tag. This money could have been spent on public education, healthcare and cost of living. Let’s Save Canada and vote!

DoorDash spent $1.4M trying to stop Zohran Mamdani from becoming mayor. This week's historic $131.5M enforcement action against DoorDash for underpaying NYC delivery workers shows why. Yet another reminder that the only thing that can beat organized money is organized people.

In a wage-theft settlement, DoorDash now has to pay its workers around 100 times what it spent trying to beat Zohran Mam

I am really trying to embrace soccer this summer, but it’s hard for a hockey fan. Soccer players rolling around on the pitch screaming like they‘ve had a battlefield amputation after a light brush, and meanwhile hockey players don’t even break stride as they spit out shards of their own teeth.

Again, I guess I'm naive, but I can't believe these guys don't have someone around them smart enough to say "Take the incredibly easy way out and just say your NHL team needs you". It's not even a politcal or a moral thing, it's just basic PR.

In 1949, Newfoundland and Labrador joined Canada as the 10th province. As soon as it joined, CBC began broadcasting from the island. Two years later, the network launched The Fisheries Broadcast. It started as a 15-minute program but was expanded to 30 minutes. 🧵 2/4

On this day in 1923, Howie Meeker was born in Kitchener. As an NHL player, he won the Calder and four Stanley Cups. He later ran several hockey schools and was a commentator for Hockey Night in Canada. He served in Parliament from 1953 to 1955. He is in the Hockey Hall of Fame.
An elderly man with white hair and large glasses, wearing a dark suit, white shirt, and patterned tie, points with a pen at a wall of multiple CRT monitors labeled CAM 3, CAM 6, CAM 9, CAM 10, and others. The screens display hockey game footage, including players on ice. Handwritten labels like "GREEN," "ORANGE," "YELLOW," and team names "BROWN" with a bear logo are visible on papers and boards around the monitors in a control room setting.

On Sept. 24, 1972, Canada and the Soviet Union took to the ice in Moscow for the sixth game of the Summit Series. Canada was down 3-1-1 and needed to win the three remaining games. The comeback began in Game Six. This is the story. 🧵 1/10
A black-and-white photograph from the 1972 Summit Series, capturing the Canadian national hockey team's bench huddle during a tense game against the Soviet Union. Ten players in white jerseys with red maple leaf crests and black pants stand clustered together on the ice, leaning in attentively as their coach, with a headset on, gestures emphatically from the sidelines behind the glass. Visible jersey numbers include 6 (likely Brad Park), 19 (Bobby Clarke), 27 (Frank Mahovlich), and 3 (Ron Ellis), with sticks and gloves in hand, evoking the high-stakes drama of the series. The arena crowd blurs in the background.

This iconic Fabian Todorovic cartoon is still one of the best I’ve seen at illustrating the remarkable amount of space we surrender to cars, leaving little space left for everyone and everything else. The text added later makes the bonus point that many drivers still manage to complain about it.

In January 1992, the Coca-Cola plant in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador closed its doors. The residents of the province never forgot this. They boycotted Coke and supported a local plant that produced Pepsi. This is how Newfoundland became "Pepsi Country". 🧵1/8
