I would like to introduce you all to Jerry Lee Lewis. This toad has been obsessed with my sister for years. He generally lives on her balcony and then hides in her potted plants so she accidentally brings him inside for the winter. Clever toad! Here he is begging for her to come out and pet him.
A fat toad sits outside a glass sliding door with some plants in the background, staring into my sister's home.

One last view of our gorgeous hotel. Have wanted to stay here since I was 4, wasn't sure if anything could live up to my dreams. Better than I imagined! Top-notch hospitality in my now-3rd favorite place on earth (besides my home and the Dolomites, of course). 3rd to last bucket list item ✅

Finally got to see Mt Washington before we leave NH! I kinda want to live on this veranda forever. The Presidentials are truly magnificent and I can't wait to come back and climb them in weather more like this. But even our backup hikes were amazing, there is no bad hiking here!

How it started, how it ended. Great 50th bday and I am truly the luckiest woman in the world that this man walks beside me whether we are on a mountain, in the field, on stage, or in the arcade. 2-2 on air hockey. Tomorrow the tie-breaker after we climb a mountain.

Lucked out today with no rain and accidentally bagged our first NH mountain (the relatively small Mt Avalon, 3440') when we were just going to some low waterfalls due to the forecast. It just kept... Not storming. Yay! So far, 50 is pretty cool!

Talk about a different kind of view from a hiking trail!! Truly unique hiking spot that I have somehow ignored my whole life. Someday I will follow this trail all the way to the Adirondacks... #goals

I swear, the ol' spacetweep magic has been in FORCE today. Found the last spot in the crowded shade for the naval parade. The best soccer pub had a perfect table for us. Now we have found a terrific spot for the fireworks. Thanks for making today amazing, @vtjawo.bsky.social!!

I will never get enough of the juxtaposition of these little succulents(?) with the NYC skyline in the other direction. Why is this plant growing on a rock in NJ? I have no idea what it is but this is the only place I see them locally. Hence the name "Cactus Ledge" for the viewpoint. #Ramapo

It is! Especially starting again with some fave childhood trails and mountains. It's so healing. Like I am meeting myself again through nature. I'm just a mountain girl stuck in a sea level city! Lol

First reward for reaching the top, ruins! This is known as Van Slyke Castle, but was originally a grand home known as Foxcroft. Built in the early 1900s and burned by vandals in 1959 after being abandoned a couple times.
A stone chimney meets the sun and trees. A wall of the stone "castle" with windows filled with plants as nature takes over. A very happy me in the ruins.

NJ may lack in elevations, but ice age glaciers delivered a whole lot of rocks that add technical difficulty. This trail is moderate, but it has its moments, even a few where your hands become very useful!
The boulders are the trail here.Thank everything for good boots with great ankle support! This rocky trail likes to play with those. And some more rocky trail.

Day 9 of training for the White Mountains. Day 1 of actual hiking. Ramapo Mountains State Forest was my childhood playground, one of the first places I ever hiked, parents would drop me/us kids off and we'd just wander for hours. Perfect start on a stunning day!
The start of every hike from my parking lot, the trail to the trails. Ramapo Lake was bluer than I have ever seen it!

Sometimes you really need a goal and deadline. I love hiking and one of the reasons I kept my car was to hike more. But I barely have. Now that I'm planning to hike in the Whites of NH, I have a reason to hike locally, gotta get my trail legs back! How do you get yourself out of ruts?

A very green blast from #NYC past. I used to love stopping in for a cocktail while grubby from hanging in Central Park so I could use their fancy bathroom. Meh food, good drinks, gorgeous bar, best setting and building ever to dine in.

I love my city. Concerns today have included: Will they let the bars serve alcohol at 8 am on a Sunday for the Olympic hockey? (Yes) And will enough bars open for it? (Of course!) I got warning a dispensary was closing early and to get my order in for "snow day essentials." And this on my car:

This remote is as big as the system it controls and has never worked as a universal for us. Everything else needs specialty buttons I can't map. There is 1 useful button (power) and 1 useful toggle button (volume). And there are no buttons on the system itself. Silly design.

Perfect shirt to wear to a literary scholar and educator's grave or what? My mom taught me this by raising me in basically a library. Gosh, I was a lucky kid. Thousands of books at home, 0 restrictions on what I was allowed to read. Now I wear this whenever my guy tells me to purge books.
