A friend's parents were getting rid of a sofa, and I was like "ooh, I need one, I'll take it off their hands" It came with some throw pillows with vaguely tropical themes, palm trees, etc. And one throw pillow with a pineapple.

Maybe this is "unfair" to the venue today. Maybe telling this story will "ruin" someone's plan to go dancing there. That they could have had more fun if they hadn't heard about bad things happening there. Maybe it scares people to know that this has happened in this town.

I have no idea if that's still a problem there today. Because I don't go anymore. Because it doesn't sound fun anymore. I still guard my drinks anytime I go anywhere. I have had a drink spiked, once. It wasn't there: it was a different place, that closed ages ago. That experience make me vigilant.

We cancelled the event & stopped going. It was no longer a fun place to party, it was just a place where a lot of us had our consent violated. It felt like too much risk to expose ourself or our friends to. If we knew people who were going, we warned them off & told our stories of our experiences.

A third of the group staying off the dance floor every song. It stopped being a free-wheeling night of fun, & started feeling like a challenge to overcome. & it still kept happening. & it was NOT just our group. Local news started posting stories about the number of people getting roofied there.

Some people dropped out of the group, because it no longer felt safe or fun. We tripled our vigilance. Even though their mixed drinks were a great deal, a lot of us switched to only getting bottles we could watch the bartender open. Nothing with a wide open top. Still watching the tables.
