'Ya Did Good, Kid' A beached dolphin is accompanied by her ecological precursor: an Ichthyosaurus memorised by the earth itself, a spirit of Black Ven. Perhaps she'll become such a relic, too. I once saw a dead dolphin on Charmouth Beach. Sadly poetic. #paleoart for Day 2 of #Inktober2026 'Relic'.
Digital palaeoart of a common dolphin (Delphinus delphis) lying on a beach, belly-up, eyes shut. Looming over it is a black cliff--Charmouth's Black Ven--with a nearly-complete articulated fossil skeleton of an Ichthyosaurus (a dolphin-like marine reptile that lived in the Early Jurassic) exposed so closely to the dolphin that it looks as though it could be coming down to keep it company.

The mid-Hadean earth, when mass extraterrestrial bombardment has flipped the atmosphere into a strongly reducing state high in methane, ammonia, and hydrogen. Beneath the thick photochemical haze, a warm little geyser pond is seen cycling its waters, bound to contain all sorts of fascinating chemistry.

This slice of a heart-shaped branch was covered in reddish resin and then carved with a Martian landscape featuring a heart-shaped crater in the upper right. The scene is in daylight and trees and sky are visible in the background.

Mood: Hark! In the deep! Trilobites!

Deep blue background with arcs of light from a submersible light. Middle distance is a thermal vent and tube worms, green and orange. Trilobites crawl in the near distance and middle distance on the vent. A bit painterly and not overly polished brushstrokes.

For today's #inkyDays drawing, I decided to pause the math-flowers and go more in a molecular biology direction. Thinking about transmembrane proteins and phospholipids for this motif. #SciArt #Biology #CellBiology #art #ink #drawing
Hand drawn generative/procedural art in ink on an open page of my sketchbook. The abstract pattern looks like a diagram of a cell membrane and proteins, but prettier. A clip holds my sketchbook open, and my glass dipping pen is near it.

One of the newest additions to my jellyfish collection, Atolla jellyfish (Atolla wyvillei), in watercolour and coloured charcoal pencil on paper 🐡 🦑 This is another jelly that flashes with blue bioluminescence to scare away predators - making it look even more like an alien spaceship! #invertefest
Atolla jellyfish (Atolla wyvillei) like a knotted ball of orange string or perhaps a burning hot sun, with thin tentacles streaming off to the left. Against a very dark blue/brown ocean.

HUGE EUROPA NEWS!! OLD DATA HAS BEEN ANALYZED AND SHOWS THE PRESENCE OF AMONIA-BEARING COMPOUNDS ON EUROPA’S SURFACE!!! THIS IS HUGE FOR THE SEARCH FOR LIFE!!
The relatively smooth, cracked surface of the moon Europa as photographed by NASA's Galileo spacecraft.Jupiter's moon Europa, with an inset that shows a magnified view of one part of its surface. The inset photo shows grooves and cracks on Europa's icy surface. Overlaid on the photo are areas marked in purple what show non-detections of ammonia, and four small areas marked in red that shod where ammonia was detected.
