STOKED for the next episode of ID Music coming up on Marfa Public Radio this Sunday at 11p CT because I may have found a route from late '90s Japanese dream pop to ambient Sun Ra tributes by way of screwed & slopped Live Talking Heads, slowed & throwed wooden techno, and long-form Zulu guitar

logging on is a bad idea because granular details of US power's planet-wide experiments testing the "no absolutes in human suffering" hypothesis is not helpful as I gave up a long time ago to focus on problems closer at hand and I do not need to announce this on bsky every day or ever, really

one of the ways I coped with the intensity of Zen Chaplain Trauma One Summer Camp was listening almost exclusively to Ricardo Villalobos remixes – which are a whole other thing from his original tracks – and I'm still totally mesmerized by how good his long-form Nightmares on Wax sessions are

always the Rapture, never the Jubilee "...money is not ineffable, that paying one's debts is not the essence of morality, that all these things are human arrangements and that if democracy is to mean anything, it is the ability to all agree to arrange things in a different way." David Graeber Debt
screenshot of text from the conclusion of David Graeber's DEBT that reads:

In this book I have largely avoided making concrete proposals, but let me end with one. It seems to me that we are long overdue for some kind of Biblical-style Jubilee: one that would affect both international debt and consumer debt. It would be salutary not j ust because it would relieve so much genuine human suffering, but also because it would be our way of reminding ourselves that money is not ineffable, that paying one's debts is not the essence of morality, that all these things are human arrangements and that if democracy is to mean anything, it is the ability to all agree to arrange things in a different way.

the flip side of having a job helping people in the midst of their own personal medical apocalypses as a way to feel minorly effective in a burning world is that if you look back over your shoulder at the burning world you begin transforming into a pillar of salt: logging off again now

The CVS down the street from me

I do not appreciate being treated like I’m a scumbag addict when I go to pick up a prescription at the pharmacy just because I look like one and also am one. Wrong kind I want to tell them. Different genre. There’s nothing you have back there that could ever heal what is wrong with me. Not even temporarily. On the other hand they got those little pre-wrapped charcuterie joints I like for $9.75 in the fridge up front so it’s not like it’s all bad. ⅖ stars.

at some point auto-correct started to do a lot more intrusive edits, rather than corrections: I typed the letters e a and r to spell the word "ear" in the sentence "pressed his ear to the wall" what is the process by which "ear" is overridden in favor of "car"

The Conversation (1974) dir: Francis Ford Coppola
Big Boi, an absolute unit-class orange cat, presses his ear to the wall, as if eavesdropping on a conversation on the other side. Domestic surveillance acticity not unlike that which preoccupies the narrative of the aforementioned film.

It's good to do the right thing, it's right to fight the good fight, and it's bad to roll over and worse to support harm. That's the concept that "wat do u want dems to do they don't have the votes" people don't understand. "How you play is what you win," writes Ursula K. Le Guin.

there's always the possibility that I'll hate CPE training or flunk all the chaplain tests or get kicked out of a Zen school if I choose to join a school but it seems worth documenting in the moment if only because I finally feel as if I've found an answer to "everything is so bad what can I do"

happy when I'm proven wrong but whenever I return to chasing bootlegs I have to re-learn the hard way that 90% of allegedly legendary '70s Led Zep and Sabbath "tour compilations" are wishful thinking that either band had Dead caliber archivists and instead they provoke instant icepick headaches

It may be that the judges have now awarded a prize to an instance of Al plagiarism - [we don't yet know, and perhaps we never will know.] edit: we have removed the story in question until the author is able to prove their text is not AI-generated because we are actually serious people.
GRANTA

For more than ten years Granta has published the winners of the Commonwealth Prize on our website. Granta editors have no control over the selection of the Commonwealth Prize stories, and nor are they involved in choosing the jury. This year, there has been speculation that Jamir Nazir's winning story, 'The Serpent in the
Grove', may have been at least partially Al-generated. We showed Claude.ai the story and asked whether it was Al-generated. The response
was long, concluding that it was 'almost certainly not produced unaided by a human'.
It ended, however, on a cautious note: 'The strongest evidence against pure Al authorship is the small number of passages that don't fit the pattern - particularly the Zoongie morning-greeting and the agricultural paragraph about the acre. Those passages carry the kind of off-shape specificity that models still struggle to produce unprompted. If the story has a human
core, it is concentrated there, and the Al has been used to elaborate around it ...' The intention of the Commonwealth Short Story Prize is to find writers from around the Commonwealth and bring them to global attention. It may be that the judges have now awarded a prize to an instance of Al plagiarism - we don't yet know, and perhaps we never will know. There is, however, a certain irony in the fact that beyond human hunches Al itself is the most efficient tool we have for revealing what is Al generated. But the Al-generated critique of these Commonwealth writers - more than one has been accused of basing their story on Al material - may conceivably itself reflect Al bias. Time will tell. The suggestion that writers have submitted material not authentically their own is a charge we take seriously, but until the Commonwealth
Foundation comes to a definite conclusion, we will keep these stories on our website.

Minor point but I think the subtle anthropomorphization of "we s h o w e d clawed dot ai the story" rather than "we entered the story text into an LLM" is embarrassing and sinister and even worse coming from a literary publication.

They fucking asked an AI if the story was AI and then just pasted part of its reply as their official statement? Guys, first of all, AI can’t tell you if something is AI, and the chatbot giving you a response to a query is not even remotely like an entity producing a deliberate, stable, statement
