Not an actual street but if I was, I'd be a people friendly street. Miserable bugger irl. Fish guts free cask beer in gorgeous pubs. Utility cycling, Oxford, London, reformed quizzer, bad jokes, constantly profiled as Camra member in said gorgeous pubs.

“Someone with a 1-hr car commute needs to earn 40% more to be as happy as someone with a short walk to work. On the other hand, if someone shifts from a long commute to a walk, their happiness increases as much as if they’d fallen in love.” #CityMakingMath 50 reasons for more walkable streets.

Oh man, that's lovely, thank you. I met Garron a few times and I'm so grateful he sent a copy of NC's book, signed by both and a framed photo of them at a Stamp Centre signing. Baker's description of the meeting has some license obviously!

My claim to fame is that I pointed out a tile in the "tardis-like" Eagle and Child to Tom Baker that was fixed there by the then whovian uni soc, hon president Nick Courtney. Long story short; 4th Doc got back in touch with the Brig and wrote the foreword in his autobiography.

Bonus poor professional driver from Ogdens Coaches, St Helens.
A coach driver has parked his vehicle on the cycle track and across the traffic lights zigzags. A traffic warden is nowhere to be seen.

Open Doors in Oxford today. Open Season for shitty drivers on the Cowley Road every day @badlyparkedox.bsky.social
A long wheel based van that has been parked on the footway, alongside traffic light zig zags and, for the chef's kiss, completely over a bollard. Cowley Road, Oxford, 1830, 12/9/26

The inside shot of the pub was filmed elsewhere though the Bookbinders, pre-Morrells' monkey nut makeover, was just as plain. It also had a fish tank between two dart boards and always seemed to smell of lamb.

Getting it right in Newcastle @donzokobeer.bsky.social (beer is technically a lager but tastes pale ale)
A picture of a pint of Keller beer by Donzoko, in their taproom in Newcastle. It is banked, that is poured to create a foamy head, put in the fridge to set, then topped up to enable the foam to whet one's tache. Delicious.

The filter opposite is, as usual, blocked by a driver too. Its no surprise. The surprise will come when something is done.

"Nobody voted for this" is a trope used across the political spectrum across most policy. Notwithstanding the need to do some studies at the junctions for some sequencing adjustments, it has led my curious mind to the question - well, what did people vote for in Westminster, Manchester and Glasgow?
A screenshot of a tweet from John Stewart. The tweet reads: "Today's Times (attached is a screenshot with the headline 'Half of e-bike riders ignore red lights at busy junctions'). We need a crackdown on this nationwide and in London where the survey shows it is at its worst it strengthens my view we need a public debate on the role of cycling. Nobody voted for this."

Some great recs. Isn't Salsa del Sol now Chickpea (best fluffiest pitta in town) and I would argue Noor are very much akin to the Cowley Rd retailers who rightly boil your piss in that they are v happy for multiple customers to fully block the pavement with their cars.

Spain's renewables build-out has structurally decoupled its electricity prices from gas markets. Gas now sets the price in only 15% of hours, compared to 90% in Italy. Countries that invested early in clean power are far less exposed to fossil fuel price shocks. Those that didn't now pay the price.

And the threat of cargo carrying lime bikes is quite exciting but the councils still seem reticent to allow them sensible parking areas. Still nothing official, for instance, near the station (for lime bikes)

It always makes me laugh when there's a pic of just one car being stored at these filter points when the reality is there's more often than not several there. My pic was yesterday 5pm and yes, the white car on the Marston St side is parked fully over the corner 🤷
Two opposing modal filters, at Rectory Rd and Marston St, off the Cowley Rd in Oxford. 5 cars are parked in the inlay from the roads, all of the tactile paving is rendered useless and wheelers can not get past the vehicles easily.

It’s worth mentioning, though it’s been said repeatedly: the Lizzie Line carries 1/6th of UK daily rail passengers (not including the Tube) and has already paid off its entire costs. And if HS2 had been committed to, without plans being tweaked every 5 minutes, Phase 1 would be opening next year.
