I'm sorry, I don't quite follow, what is the relevance of this in context of my response?

consciousness isn't rigidly defined; arbitrarily defining some baselines that you can agree on is necessary to even have a meaningful discussion about it. if you just go 'nuh uh, i dont agree with that definition of consciousness', i mean, sure, you can do that, but we'll just go in circles forever

I'm taking my "Norway's wealth tax didn't reduce tax revenue" victory lap.
Whether imposing higher taxes on business owners adversely affects business activity by constraining investment and inducing capitalist flight is a central question in the ongoing debate on how to tax the ultra wealthy. To shed new light, I exploit a series of related Norwegian reforms during 2021–2024 that increased dividend tax rates, removed migration-related capital gains tax loopholes, and nearly doubled the effective marginal tax rate on business wealth. These reforms spurred international debate and, allegedly, an “exodus” of Norwegian billionaires (Financial Times, 2023). While I document clear effects on migration, these responses are concentrated among the top 0.1% of the wealth distribution and mostly confined to 2022 and 2023. My results indicate that at most 100 individuals left due to the reforms. I find no evidence of significant outmigration or reduced inflows of startup founders or inventors. I estimate that absent any outmigration, wealth tax revenues would have increased by 75% from 2021 to 2024. Reform-driven outmigration lowers the revenue gain to 71.5%. My findings further show that outmigrating owners’ firms remain economically active and do not reduce investment. In a broader set of analyses, I examine whether business outcomes are affected, regardless of whether owners outmigrate, since firms may reduce investment both due to liquidity constraints or distortions to owners’ savings decisions. I compare firms owned by Norwegian individuals subject to the wealth tax with firms owned by foreigners and other tax-exempt entities. By merging historical ownership data from Orbis with the Norwegian shareholder register, I perform these analyses on both Norwegian and foreign-domiciled firms. Across settings, I find no evidence that Norwegian-owned firms pay out more dividends or invest less after the reforms, nor is there any evidence that the reform induced more bankruptcies. ...

what'd be the difference to how LLMs already work? if they are conscious under these assumptions, they'd be conscious right now as well. I dont think the particular substrate matters

this whole debate is moot since consciousness is not a clearly defined term, neither claim can be falsified

I was thinking about the Anthropic, SpaceX, and OpenAI IPOs. What this might be a harbinger of is the end of public markets as a mechanism for growing wealth. Wealth inequality is so extreme that VCs, PE funds, and wealth investors no longer need a public market for growth, just exit liquidity.

“how do we win back trump voters in 2026” we don’t. we create an environment where admitting to voting for trump is so socially embarrassing as to render them completely inert. you don’t “win back” trump voters. you demoralize them into staying home. you make it a dunce cap

its the unfortunately common fallacy of 'Bad people used tool X to do bad things' and concluding that the bad part weren't the bad people wanting and doing bad things, it was tool X. But if you actually followed that logic through to the end, one wouldn't be able to do literally anything anymore

sentiment more or less correct i think, but too generalized. you only need around 10% or so of the electorate to be too dumb and/or evil and/or irresponsible to reliably swing the election into the wrong territory every time. IRL probs more than 10% but i also doubt its an actual majority

Folge: Eskalierende Irrelevanz.

But also yes, the fact that using theatrical breaks to appear like you are in deep thought and talking in big words alone about what are seen as 'smart people topics' is enough to convince people of your mental prowess is scary. Evidence that many seem to factor style over substance, unfortunately

I think the internet may be another factor in this. Your thoughts seem more well put-together as depersonalized text on screens that you were able to think about more than 10 seconds than speaking in person. Not a coincidence pseudointellectuals embarass themselves often in actual debate

ontologically axiomatic @correctimus.bsky.social · 21/09/2026

How do you know our brains aren't actually graviton-based soul furnaces? Proving a negative is not rhetorically sound with these kind of questions. It takes an equal amount of unfounded confidence to claim human brains work just like LLMs. The only reasonable position atm is 'We don't know'

Scientists make potential breakthrough in search for dark matter
Scientists have made a possible breakthrough in the hunt for dark matter — observing hints of it during an experiment about a mile (1.6 km) underground in South Dakota — though they stopped short of saying they have finally detected this elusive cosmic component.

A 100-ton-to-LEO fully reusable vehicle that launches once every two weeks is already setting a new paradigm. If you build 7 of those you can launch every two days, which probably already exceeds any real demand that would exist for launch services, even SpaceX's own ambitions (data centers are BS)

The (probably Musk-borne) obsession with RTLS and 'rapid reusability' (when you could have far better results and probably economy too with just a fleet of 'standard time reusable' starships) completely kneecaps the whole concept of Starship, when it could easily be a revolutionary launch vehicle.
