What. A. Game. 😍 33-19, first time England have beaten New Zealand on home ground in 13 years, and only the 9th time they’ve beaten them in 120 years! All thanks to my lucky socks. 🥳🥳🥳

Lucky pants and socks deployed for #ENGvNZL today 🏟️🏉🤞🤞🤞

On the shelf is a rainbow nightlight, a random goat toy, a mostly red print that reads “SW12 Balham (gateway to the south)”, to the left is a red umarell that stands in constant judgement, and a festival poster for Krankenhaus music festival.

This morning’s outage shows just how many Internet sites, services, and SaaS can be affected in one go:- Atlassian, AWS, Canva, Lyft, Ring, Signal, Zoom to name just a few. This is where good BC and DR planning comes in, what would your business do if *everything* is down?

Meanwhile in America, this headline has very “ugh, why won’t disabled people and asthmatics just die” vibes about it ☠️

Saw Sigur Rós last night in Amsterdam, a very different experience than the Royal Albert Hall, much more intimate compared to last week and easier to hear the orchestra (being deaf). Great venue too, a theatre originally built as a permanent horse circus space!
Sigur Rós and orchestra receiving a well deserved standing ovationDecoration above the stage at the Royal Theatre Carré in Amsterdam. Two prancing horses are shown either side of a red shield with a lion on. Below this is what looks like a royal crown.

The Venn diagram of people who can’t understand why many fear how ID cards could be used in the UK and people who are white cis-het and non-disabled is a perfect circle. If you’re part of one or more minority groups then the fear is real in the current global political climate. #DigitalID #IDCards

Ticket queuing system for Nick Cave was a lot less painful than I expected, although maybe I was just super-lucky. Joined the queue at 10:00, 10:02 had bought tickets 😮

If you are concerned about the impact of the EHRC’s proposed guidance, please do write to your MP. Trans+ Solidarity Alliance have created a great template, it takes just a couple of minutes to do.

Question for gardeners / allotment people: we’ve successfully grown a melon, if I save some of the seeds am I likely to be able to use next year, or are they like pumpkin and not as likely to fruit? #allotment #gardening

Taxing pensioners is an attractive “quick-fix” headline. The reality is much different with the days of rich-retirees on final salary pensions long gone. Pensions pots continue to shrink, so taxing pensioners with relatively low income isn’t going to be the tax receipt boom the headlines suggest.

Dealing with glut of produce from the allotment, been busy making soups, jams, sauces, kimchi, and apple butter to use over the winter. #allotmentlife #gardening
A shelf in our larder filled with jars. From left to right, jars containing a red tomato and basil sauce, then jars containing green pea and ham soup, then some plum jam with jars of blackberry & raspberry jam on top, then some jars of kimchi, and finally some small jars of dark brown spiced apple butter!

Went to a Deaf Rave DJ workshop today, and it was *brilliant*. Run by Troi Lee (DJ Chinaman - played Glasto, Boomtown, has run Deaf Raves for years), taught us the basics of mixing, and the Woojer haptic vests were 🤯 a whole new music experience!!! 10/10 would recommend 👌

In front of them is a big projection screen with Rekordbox DJ software shown on itMe, wearing a white shirt, a white beard, and glasses. Over my shirt is a Woojer haptic vest. Every single beat I can feel through it. Behind me is a Panasonic mixing deck, a speaker, and a very large projection screen showing Rekordbox DJ software.

Hot Chip talking on BBC 6 Music earlier about their music and new best of album (Joy In Repetition) was great! Seen them several times now and, for me at least, they’re the kind of band that deliver pure joy at their gigs! Good to hear they’ll prob tour next year, I need to hear Flutes live again!!

Got up to the allotment between the storms, it’s gone nuts over the last few days!! Courgettes, carrots, another kilo of beans, and several kilos of tomatoes. This weekend will be making and canning roasted tomato sauce, and cooking a batch of apple butter 😍 #allotmentlife #gardening
A large wicker trug overflowing with vegetables! The truth is filled to the brim with tomatoes, beans, and courgettes, and over the top lay some multicolour carrots (some orange, some white, some purple).A large green bowl is sitting on a wooden worktop, the bowl is filled and piled high with lots of red apples.

Had the privilege of seeing Nick Cave perform a solo show at the Ancient Theatre of Philippopolis, a Roman amphitheatre in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. Over two and a half hours and one of the best gigs I’ve ever been to. Every song he writes has intent and means something to him and the audience. Wonderful 😍

Wandering around Sofia today, dropped in to the Church of St Nicholas the Miracle-Maker, a stunning and small Russian Orthodox Church, and then on the opposite end of the scale the St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, which is big enough to give service to 5,000 people 😮
The Russian Church (Bulgarian: Руска църква, romanized: Ruska tsarkva), officially known as the Church of St Nicholas the Miracle-Maker (Bulgarian: църква „Св. Николай Чудотворец“, romanized: tsarkva "Sv. Nikolay Chudotvorets", Russian: Церковь Святителя Николая Чудотворца (София)), is a Russian Orthodox church in central Sofia, Bulgaria situated on Tsar Osvoboditel Boulevard.

(Alt text from the Wikipedia page for the church: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russian_Church,_Sofia)St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral is a Bulgarian Orthodox cathedral in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria. Built in Neo-Byzantine style, it serves as the cathedral church of the Patriarch of Bulgaria and it is one of the 100 largest Christian church buildings by volume in the world. It is one of Sofia's symbols and primary tourist attractions. St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in Sofia occupies an area of 3,170 square metres (34,100 sq ft) and can hold 5,000 people inside. It is among the 10 largest Eastern Orthodox church buildings. It is the largest cathedral in the Balkans. It is believed that up until the year 2000 it was the largest finished Orthodox cathedral.

I don’t know how often this needs to be said, but: if you don’t know what data an LLM is restricted to use, then you should not use the output without first verifying.

Mind-boggling that the Labour MP for homelessness would evict tenants and re-list for £hundreds more a month whilst knowing your department has drafted legislation that will stop landlords evicting and immediately re-listing rental properties 🤯 The Labour Party are definitely no longer socialists.

Of all the use cases for an AI service agent, a virtual MP feels particularly risky. What happens if the agent gives bad/inappropriate advice? Where in the world is data processed? How is any information provided by constituents used?

This is a great example of a poor use of AI and is very misleading, e.g. doesn't show the view of the train station opposite or the hairdressers connected to the house, plus there are internal inconsistencies between AI and actual pics. Possibly breaches the Property Ombudsman code of conduct.

Remember the “Labour will sell off allotments” story from the other day? Unsurprisingly, this wasn’t exactly a fair and honest summary of what’s actually happening. TL;DR: Allotments are still protected, the only sales happening are ones where the NAS is involved and alternatives provided to people

This (from State Of The Nation 2024 report) is, well, “interesting”. No creative occupations, massive gaps between categories (eg you’re either a CEO of a large company or for the next category down your an Office Manager), and no shade on roofers but most I know would be fiercely working class.

Agree with Simon, the parade was predominantly community, charity, and protest groups. No glossy / glitzy corporate parade floats, the small number of corporates that were there felt like they were represented by LGBTQ+ staff rather than old style “we need to have a float, who will volunteer”

Hot takes about #BrightonPride being commercial are 🙄 It’s the UK’s biggest Pride event, hundreds of thousands watch the (free) parade, tens of thousands attend the Pride on the Park and Pride Street Party. There is something for everyone, and an event this size costs money to put on.

This is quite a thing that Nationwide has done. It’s quite sad that the Government didn’t do something like this, particularly as they often talk of user-centric design. A cynical view is this was a deliberate choice by Government as it discouraged people from making claims.

If you're going to use a consumer VPN, for God's sake use a decent service and pay for it. Free VPNs are probably sharing your data, will log your activity, will prob only give you access to a small number of servers and thus won't work very well, and might even be a scam.

Threads. Growing up through the Cold War was scary times, the shooting down of KE007, the increasing tensions between Reagan, Thatcher, Brezhnev / Andropov, the three minute warning. We watched Threads at school, and it still haunts me now 😱

Happy #Caturday from Ms Gertie Bassett
A black cat (with a hint of ginger in the sunlight) lazes on a beige platform that sits on top of a sisal-wrapped scratching post. The wall behind her is a dark blue, there’s a glimpse of a curtain to her right, also dark blue but with pops of acid orange and green. She looks very pleased with herself as her tail and back leg hangs off the side of the platform.

Disposable Barbecues are made with no consideration for safety or the environment. As a consequence we have a near constant stream of… - catastrophic environmental destruction - life changing injuries - needless landfill Minimum standards for their production are essential #LegsLiftLid
Boy with heavily bandaged feet lies in a hospital bed Wildlife graze in the foreground of a rural landscape while enormous fires rage in the back ground An urban park littered with dbbqs and waste heading straight to landfill Sign advising against the 3 D’s (Damage to people, Destruction of the environment & Disposal of single use waste) from Disposable barbecues and to choose something with the 3 L’s (legs to avoid heat transfer into the ground, Lid to contain flames, heat, ash and residue, Lifting handles to aid removal/movement)
