Fantastic work from CoRe trainee, @mercedes-carro.bsky.social from the @cohenlab.bsky.social demonstrating important roles for Argonaute proteins functioning in the nucleus during mammalian meiosis. AGO3 and AGO4 are critical regulators Meiotic Sex Chromosome Inactivation.

Going after contraceptive access would be such a blindingly stupid thing to because the VAST majority of women have used it at some time. Kinda hard to find an experience that 80% of women share in common.
In the US, OCPs are the most common form of reversible contraception used. Almost 80% of US reproductive aged female individuals who ever had sexual intercourse with a male partner have used a birth control pill in their lifetime.

Lab’s 1st preprint! Menstruation is understudied due to societal taboos + a biological challenge: mice (a key system for research + drug discovery) don’t menstruate. @cagricevrim.bsky.social made menstruating mice + used them to discover early events in menstruation. He is on the job market!

Argonaute proteins regulate the timing of the spermatogenic transcriptional program
Argonaute proteins are best known for their role in microRNA-mediated post-transcriptional gene silencing. Here, we show that AGO3 and AGO4, but not AGO2, localize to the sex chromatin of pachytene sp...

Hi Bluesky. For my first post, I'd like to advertise the latest preprint from my lab, describing at long last our reconstitution of SPO11-dependent double-strand break formation from purified recombinant proteins. Outstanding work from PhD student Zhi (Zack) Zheng.
Experimental results showing DNA break formation by purified SPO11 protein. Above is an image of an electrophoresis gel, below is a graph showing quantification of the DNA cleaving activity
