i read this post on tumblr shortly after it was made and i've been thinking about it every day since
tumblr post from user "tsarina-anadyomene" which reads as follows:

There's really this strong temptation that everyone has which basically says "to have interiority is to be like me; ordinary people are surface everywhere." And this manifests in different ways in different spaces, and becomes really pronounced when you cluster together with similar people. So tumblr users often act like straight people don't have any interiority because it helps you feel the deepening of social bonds with other gay people. This happens professionally too. I think it was Summer or Sharks who was saying that programming people think that intelligence is just being really good at writing code. Not surprising but very strange to me! I am (equally ridiculously) used to thinking that intelligence is being really good at philosophy, having command of a lot of sources that you can use creatively, etc. This reflects a kind of dynamic on tumblr and reddit. On reddit to have interiority is to be a science guy and on tumblr to have interiority is to be a humanities girl (and the dynamic is gendered in exactly this way). And I think there is something dangerous about habitually regarding other people as automatons. It's good to have people outside of your niche to remind you that other people from different walks of life are quite deep and complicated. They are full of love and fine grained attention to things you never thought to care about. And I think a lot of people go through life thinking of themselves as perpetually victimized by basically empty people rather than having genuine confrontations with full, genuine people who are committed to subtle, complex and real values, who have detailed and intricate histories, and who have a bond to you that you might never quite fully understand. But we rarely even try at understanding these things. We just decide that they're stupid and ridiculous and unreasonable.

Everybody responds differently to edibles. As I understand it, it depends a lot on how much of certain enzymes your body produces to metabolize them, and also how your digestive process is going at the time (foods high in amino acids seem to help, like peanut butter). May take time to find your dose

My first introduction to this actually real phenomenon was Acerfur. Ever after, whenever an online discussion of Lean gets too technical, I realize every avatar is in a fursuit. COMIC ◆ www.smbc-comics.com/comic/fur PATREON ◆ www.patreon.com/ZachWeinersm... STORE ◆ smbc-store.myshopify.com
5-panel SMBC comic update. Two women talk as they walk on a beach. The first asks "why do people say furries run every IT department?" This leads the second to start a passionate explanation over 4 panels, where she states: "that’s an outdated stereotype. The internet is indeed sustained by furries, but your modern furry is also the core user of automated proof solvers tied to machine learning. Furries don’t just run IT. They run math itself. Soon we will open nature’s book, written in the language of god, and only the furries will know how to read!" After the speech, the first woman reacts by saying "woof," as an expression similar to "yikes" or "wow," and the second woman responds "precisely," associating it with the sound of an animal.

1/x Just FYI, for those who didn't know: The first head-on challenge to the US gov't's authority to ban queer marriage was in 1970. Less than 1 year after Stonewall, on May 8, 1970, James McConnell and Richard Baker got hitched and then, presumably, went home and boinked their brains out.

A note of caution about Mr. Brown: while the cans are sturdy enough that I'm fairly certain you could build a house out of them, they also appear to be BPA-lined. Since I'm not washing and reusing them (except possibly in construction), I'm not too worried, but caveat emptor.

8.12 oz, 100 calories. 9/10, I was saving what I thought might be the best Mr. Brown for last, and I was right. Tastes like (and is) a decently strong iced coffee with milk and sugar. Unpretentious, an ideal pick-me-up.

8.12 oz, 120 calories. 7/10, it's not *bad*, but the artificial vanilla is noticeable, and gives it more of a sweet cream flavor than anything.

Thinking today about bloodthirsty ghouls leading America into failed wars, for no special reason. 7.9 oz, 170 calories. 7/10, sweet and bold, as you'd want from Vietnamese coffee. This is made with coffee extract, but I'm docking points more for calories than that, it might be needed for the flavor

8.12 oz, 100 calories. 8/10. I didn't notice the calories and was expecting straight coffee. This is more like coffee milk. It's good, but come on Mr. Brown, have the courage to give me a plain version. Upright and honest, the way I'm pretty sure this can would still be upright if you ran it over.

8.12 oz, 110 calories. 8/10, loved this one. Usually I write these while I'm still drinking, but I wasn't fast enough this time. I don't know how "cappucino" flavor came to mean chocolate, but it goes well with the coffee. Very tasty, but again, it could be bolder.

The image is a five panel black and white comic.

Panel 1- A person stands with their hands on their hips in front of a pile of opened boxes filled with items. "Hmmm"

Panel 2- Tiredly they say, "Eh...I can deal with this when I'm not tired..."

Panel 3- We see the pile of boxes again. "Yeah.."

Panel 4- "38 consecutive days of being tired later" We see them again, looking gaunt and exhausted, face in the shadow.

Panel 5- They stand in front of the pile of boxes which have been untouched.

8.12 oz, 110 calories. 7/10, the sturdiness of the can belies the mildness of flavor. It's certainly not bad, but I was hoping for a bolder caramel.

10.1 oz, 100 calories. 6/10, but like, a high 6. I meant to not do half points, so I'm retroactively changing yesterday's to 8/10, also. I'm inexplicably taken with Pokka's mascot. The coffee is good, but it's overall too sweet. Slightly artificial taste, but not nearly as bad as others.

8.12 oz, 110 calories. 8.5/10 Absolutely delightful! Smooth and rich, the macadamia flavor (artificial, fwiw) adds a kind of nuttiness (I know, duh) that is really unusual for someone used to hazelnut and similar flavors. Also the can is so thick I can't crush it with one hand. Intimidating!

I've said it before, & I'll say it again & again: When people have their first epistemic & ontological shocks— those shocks to what they thought they knew & thought was real— you have to guide them CAREFULLY to get them to move *Toward* prosocial consensus reality & *AWAY* from, e.g., conspiracism.
Screenshot of two tumblr posts:

Tumblr user tpwrtrmnky:
A lot of the time when I point out that some right-wing policy is proven to not achieve the thing it purports to have as a goal, people rightly point out that the real goal is the negative outcomes that do happen.
Which is correct!
But this is often framed as me approaching the right wing naively by the respondent.
That's not the case at all. I know they're evil. The goal is to demonstrate that they're lying by exposing the way the rhetoric fails to line up with reality.
This has to be ongoing work because someone new has their political awakening every day. Every day, someone needs to learn that the right wing position is wrong on all levels, not just the obvious ones.
Tumblr user realflaminglily:
there will be people out there who still think the war on drugs (as the absolute first thing that comes to mind) is a legitimate social cause against an antisocial blight on society. if you come out the gate with (the very true statement) that it's actually been a deliberate campaign to target minorities and other undesirable groups to the ruling class, you're going to sound like a clueless conspiracy nut
whereas if you come with a very defensible, statistically supported point of "it doesn't work and has never worked" you can open the door to the follow up question of "why did the government do it in the first place, and (in many cases) why are they still doing it?"
