I agree arbiter was done in Halo 3 but I never liked the humans as Forerunners. It felt cheap and hackneyed, plus it added to the mystery of the Forerunner too.

The Guardians are an objectively cool concept and the Didact could have been a great trilogy villian

I saw a press comment floating around but I can't mind what it said (tbf I don't think it was anything bad)

Look this could slap, especially if they pull off showing the Insurrection and the early days of the Covenant War. But they won't so, life goes on.

My gut feeling is that this has probably also indirectly harmed the SGP's chances at Westminster though that's based on vibes. John Swinney continues to be a lucky general.

A lot can happen between now and the polls, whenever they may be, but between this and Burnham's left turn on economics, I think it's fairly solid that Labour will still lead the left-liberal bloc in 2029-34, even if they don't deserve it

That said, the party has a nice easy mechanism to get rid of leaders and it has two more than adequate successors (Denyer and Spencer)

Structurally, the Greens are still favoured to pick up seats but nowhere near the level we previously assumed was possible. Think 20-25 is a fairly solid plateau they'll lie at rather than 50-100 range.

It is genuinely impressive how badly Polanski has fumbled a generational moment for the GPEW (that he helped create)

There's also the question of who's scariest to squishy English liberals and lefties (sorry bluesky) the collection of guys who want to break up the country, the greens in the city or the polite orange Tories in the south. It's a whole new ball game.

Thing is we have the example of 2015 with Miliband and the SNP but that was still at the tail end of the old party system so who knows how English voters interact with it under a five-party system

The above is an extreme example and this will be regionally variant (I imagine Scotland differs significantly to the South-East or East of England) but man alive, it's bad

There's a meme online that Irish people are obsessed with independence and have a persecution complex and my only answer to that is "have you met the average Brit?"

We put unqualified eejits in charge of it, we refuse to investigate potential war crimes there, we routinely describe them as "an economic burden" yet refuse to let them go. God you could write a book on NI as a colony even from 1998 onwards.

In true UK fashion we repackage this through our bonkers class system which is why someone with a Glaswegian or Aberdonian accent codes as working class even if they own like, a boat

While I’ve made my feelings about this more than clear, I’m quite upset seeing some centre left people use this an excuse to somehow suggest now Labour is some kind of moral bulwark against bigotry by comparison.

We would all have better conversations about Zionism if we viewed it as a nationalism like all others, akin to diaspora Serbian nationalism from Canadian Serbs. Not a civil rights or social justice cause, but also not a way Jewish people are abnormal or ontologically evil.

Between Labour MPs letting their party walk down the transphobia and anti-immigrant pipeline, GPEW MPs letting their party walk down the anti-semitism pipeline it would be nice if *one* major party on the english centre-left and left got its shit together

This is easy to understand even if you're unfamiliar with Jewish communal life. I'm not a religious Catholic in part due to the Church's views. To demand I prove my anti-Clericalism/social liberalism by not interacting "true" Catholics means I can't go to baptisms or like, visit my granny.

since time immemorial there has been a fringe of the English left (and the Scottish left too, but they're so ineffectual they can't even muster a party anymore) that basically believes reading to the end of a sentence is bourgeois. they have now infected GPEW

One thing that should stick in folks heads is the "vote SNP for Indy, for Green for policies" that was popular on TikTok/insta. Indy is the default position for you if you're under 40, and there's not much evidence that it shifts majorly as you age either. It is a very cultural way of understanding.

RDCK98 @comradekenobi.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
It is remarkable that the majority of both unionists and secessionists view Indyref 2 as "a guarantee that it happens" and have adjusted their strategies accordingly

RDCK98 @comradekenobi.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
Wes Streeting's interview where he says "they're not having one" should be shown in universities about how not to deal with secessionist movements.

RDCK98 @comradekenobi.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
It's amazing to me that this is beyond so many unionist politicians. It's really easy to make a compelling case against it without resorting to procedural nonsense!

RDCK98 @comradekenobi.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
Canada has been dealing with secessionist issues since the 1960s and each time has hoped that it'll just "go away" but it never does, not in a democracy. There is no quick fix, there is no final victory. In a multi-national polity, you must fight the same battle again and again.

Something I think we've learned in the 2010s and 20s is that identity *is* important. You can't paper over it forever and the longer you leave it, the less arguments you leave yourself
2131
RDCK98 @comradekenobi.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
The calculation is that if you move closer to the EU/rejoin then support for secession declines. Not a ludicrous hypothesis and a safe bet to make, but it misses a couple of key points 1) NI's likely eventual departure 2) The cratering of Britishness outside of English cities and NI

I'm not even saying that it's necessarily baffling for English progressives to take this line- they clearly have some attachment to the UK, that's fine! Make that case. Say you think Brexit destroyed a part of the UK's soul in the same way you think Indy would which is why you have a different view
