Second, I had a really good time with Orbitals, so I wrote about how I very much prefer the positivity of that game's protagonists compared to the characters we're forced to play as in Hazelight's co-op games: www.gamespot.com/articles/orb...

I had two fun GameSpot pieces go live over the weekend! First, a little rant about how Nintendo should highlight its subsidiary and partner studios more loudly and proudly: www.gamespot.com/articles/the...

Nintendo doesn't want you to care which studios made its titles, but here's why you should.

Still standing by this after I watched the movie! Saw a funny but accurate comment online something along the lines of "not even the games are faithful to the games."

For Remastered this week, I used all the discourse around The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for Switch 2 to explore how there's now a spectrum of what video game remakes can be, and that there's no wrong way to do one (except for generative AI, I guess): www.remastered.blog/what-does-re...

What Does "Remake" Mean In 2026?

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for Nintendo Switch 2 highlights how every remake approaches revitalizing a classic differently.

Every Switch 2 port announcement during a direct that you think is boring/not a big deal is exciting to people like me who only have a Switch 2 and no other platform that could play these games before I saw a *ton* of shit today that I am so excited for because I can finally play them

I’m super excited (ravenous, even) for a new 2D Metroid, but is MercurySteam making it? Reports made it sound like it’s a horrendous studio to work for, and I would’ve been surprised if Nintendo would want to collab with them again if that were true.

I'm most interested in Ocarina of Time's apparent fascination with a more logically constructed world. A floating platform is replaced with a crumbling bridge. A ladder suspended by nothing is held in place by a stone mechanism. I'm curious to see if the whole world abides by this design.

Chris Compendio @compenderizer.bsky.social · 08/09/2026

I’m not really into the framing of “every Zelda art style was criticized at first” because the Ocarina remake feels more related to the larger industry’s trend towards photorealism and how uncanny and futile those efforts are looking

Trying to sit through Lanterns, but it’s real hard when one of the two leads is an insufferable asshole. It doesn’t even seem like his behavior comes from character. It feels like they just want critics and viewers to praise Kyle Chandler and the dynamic even though there’s no depth behind it.
