#TheVictorianBookoftheDead #NationalBirdDay Artificial or stuffed doves were popular additions to funeral flowers . Seen here on Gates Ajar, pillow and sheaf-of-wheat arrangements.

The Odd Fellows chain and the word Lavette are at the bottom of the pillow. Covered mortuary trolley, c.1895. The stretcher can be used separately from the wheeled base. The trolley was well used because the front wheels have been replaced with more modern equivalents. The trolley was donated to the Science Museum in 1979 by King Edward VII Hospital.

Making sense of sudden mass deaths
Sudden, brutal death; and so many deaths, at one time. What does it do to you to be one of the bereaved in such a traumatic event such as the 9/11 attacks or a pandemic like Covid-19?

What's your favorite flick about grief or death? Maybe it's not one that tackles the topic directly, but is part of the supporting cast...much like real life. One that comes to mind is Lars and the Real Girl. Billed as a comedy-drama, it is imbued with grief and loss. #lifeimitatesart #deathcare

Community deathcare also supports community healthcare. Access, quality, and compassion are some of the values that matter in care across the lifespan. Preventative care can ensure the years we're granted are good ones, and untimely death is avoided.

Raven’s Call : Aging & End of Life guide in Oregon @endoflifecare.bsky.social · 21/05/2025
Completed Life Initiative recently compared the number of MAiD prescriptions written vs the number of people who took the medications. Last year there was quite a difference. Conclusion: Simply having their DwD Rx or having the meds in their home provides comfort to some nearing death.
Screenshot of part of an email from Completed Life Initiative, reading "Medical Aid-in-Dying: Increase in Prescriptions, Decrease in Usage
The Oregon Health Authority released a 2024 report revealing that although prescriptions for medical aid-in-dying (MAiD) increased slightly from the prior year, there was an overall decrease in the number of patients who actually used the medication. This indicates that many people find psychological comfort in knowing that they have the option to navigate their end-of-life journey on their own terms, even if they don’t end up taking the prescription.
Contrary to the claims of the opposition, the fact that Oregon now allows out-of-state residents to access MAiD has not resulted in an exponential demand for this option."
