The question’s entire premise is broken. No replica is inherently ‘counterfeit’—only fraudulent use makes it so. Yet Wizards of the Coast and collectors demand players act as forensic experts, while stores (who actually have authentication tools) evade responsibility. This is by design: they conflate all replication with crime to justify artificial scarcity.

The solution is simple: a transparent market where official cards (for collectors) and clearly labeled proxies (for gameplay) coexist. Wizards could sell affordable proxies tomorrow, but they refuse—because their business relies on manufactured scarcity to inflate prices.

This isn’t about protecting players; it’s about protecting profits. They alienate even their own workers (designers, artists) as wage-labor, then gaslight us into thinking replicas are the problem. Your right to replicate game pieces isn’t negotiable. The only ‘immoral’ act here is a system that treats playing cards like gold bars instead of game components.
