A terrible indictment of the water privatisation experiment in the UK. Don't let your children play in the water. Utterly deplorable. #sewagescandal #DirtyBusiness #Devon

Tony Blair at the so called Board of Peace summit blaming conditions in Gaza on the Palestinians. No mention of Israels decades long occupation, 20 year siege & regular attacks (mowing the lawn) that turned Gaza into an open air prison.

The calls for redistribution and wealth taxes are gaining momentum. Zack Polanski / the Greens are on the right side of this argument. Labour will follow the Tories into irrelevance if they don't wake up and change their leadership.

Well that's the trouble. We did. We voted out the Tories, only to get a government that now does the same or worse. It's not hard to see why people feel like giving up on politics.

It's almost as if, before the Gaza famine was officially recognised, it was a story, as media organisations could generate controversy by hosting Israeli government spokespeople and our own rightwing blowhards, insisting it was all a fabrication. Now that it can no longer be denied ... no story.

The deliberate and relentless killing of Palestinian journalists is sickening beyond words — and is a desperate attempt to silence the truth about Israel’s ongoing crimes against humanity. Shame on all those who empowered Israel to murder with impunity.

Steel, auto, quarrying, mining, shipbuilding; I've seen them all from the inside and my abiding impression is that it's hard, dirty work with long hours for the majority of employees. Moving to automation & robotics will be fascinating.

Everybody should be encouraged to take an interest in their local community, to help clean it up (literally), to grow food for it (or buy it from local producers) and contribute what skills they have to the betterment of it.

James Henry Leigh Hunt, by Benjamin Robert Haydon (died 1846).

Hunt is depicted as a young man with dark, wavy hair, intense eyes, and a strong gaze that conveys intellectual depth and determination. His facial features are sharply defined, with high cheekbones and a prominent nose, emphasizing his expressive and thoughtful demeanor.

He wears a rich, deep red garment with intricate patterns, and his white collar is open and slightly upturned, adding a sense of romanticism and individuality. The background is dark and muted, focusing attention on Hunt’s face and expression.

I recently discovered Maria Graham's (later Maria Callcott's) amazing journal of her stay in Valparaiso and Santiago, Chile, in 1822. I'm astonished she isn't more widely known. Her powers of observation were exceptional and her journal is endlessly interesting. She needs a biographer.
