Key point: The news is not Putin trying to subvert “the West”: Brexit, AfD, Le Pen, Orban, everything remotely right wing he supported. The news is that the U.S. have turned. There is no “West” anymore. There is a fragile island of liberal democracies in Europe encircled by autocracies.

While I saw some real weaknesses in Biden's policy towards Ukraine (and still do), he remained absolutely committed to the Atlantic alliance.

From a german perspective, it enrages me to no end how accurate this is. What’s more: Merz, his government and party (CDU) are barely distinguishable from the AfD anymore. Whether by tactical ineptitude or by design noone can tell, probably both. And the AfD is winning state elections.

Es ist unglaublich, wie eine selbsternannte Wirtschaftspartei es schafft, gleichzeitig Wirtschaft und Klima zu sabotieren. In erneuerbaren Technologien lägen eigentlich Geld und Zukunft auf der Straße. Und in der CDU schauen alle einfach zu, wie eine Partei und ein Land zugrunde gerichtet werden.

There is a circular economy in AI chips worth trillions going on, where NVIDIA, OpenAI etc. bet everything on AI taking off. It won't. Imagine what happens if China invades the country almost exclusively providing the most high-end chips this depends on. And the US military can't even deal w/ Iran.

All of this hinges on Trump and currently the midterms. Let’s hope Trump loses decisively as this is the only hope for things to improve. Although Trump will not go peacefully. The future of Ukraine and, arguably, the „West“ hinges on this cold civil war in the U.S. that are the midterms.

Finally 3️⃣ War production: Russia has China and North Korea producing for them. Esp China as the worlds workbench for advanced electronics can be a major factor because Europe/U.S. can’t dream of matching the scale and sophistication of chinese production.
