Key point: The news is not Putin trying to subvert “the West”: Brexit, AfD, Le Pen, Orban, everything remotely right wing he supported. The news is that the U.S. have turned. There is no “West” anymore. There is a fragile island of liberal democracies in Europe encircled by autocracies.

While I saw some real weaknesses in Biden's policy towards Ukraine (and still do), he remained absolutely committed to the Atlantic alliance.

From a german perspective, it enrages me to no end how accurate this is. What’s more: Merz, his government and party (CDU) are barely distinguishable from the AfD anymore. Whether by tactical ineptitude or by design noone can tell, probably both. And the AfD is winning state elections.

Crucial. Ukrainians are still fighting fair which is both necessary and admirable given the circumstances. The future to me hinges on 3 overt, 1 less talked about topic: 1️⃣ Advanced Anti Air 2️⃣ Oil 3️⃣ Military Production 4️⃣ Starlink

And I heard some people say-Aha, the Ukrainians are terrorizing civilians just like the Russians. Actually, if the Ukrainians fired 1000+ units and one apartment block was hit, that is a sign that they were not targeting civilians.
Russia targets multiple such targets per raid (shopping malls, apartment buildings, first responders, civilian trains, etc.). If one apartment only was hit in such a massive raid, that is a sign of lack of intent.

With the Fedorov dust settled it seems we actually dodged a bullet with him and found a gem in Drapatyi. To me it is quite obvious that the tech and AI bros got in his head. Let's hope that Drapatyi and the new Defense Minister work hand in hand and maybe Zelenskyy learned his lesson.

What Drapatyi writes is fascinating and heartening. It gives an indication of
what Drapatyi believes are the key tenets of how Ukraine needs to fight the
war and how the Ukrainian army needs to be run. Foundationally, he believes
that the Ukrainians must out-think and out-adapt the Russians. Key elements
that will make this possible are keeping Ukrainian casualties down, keeping
morale high, and demanding accountability from Ukraine's officer corps.

Core point. This was an election campaign event. Maybe Ratcliffe really pressured Russia to end the war (which would help Trump). Maybe other Russian actions that might benefit Trump during the elections were discussed. None of which will have been good for Ukraine or democracy anywhere.

Now these two leaks, both trying to make Trump look strong, are on their surface actually contradictory. One has Russia so strong it could threaten NATO with a military operation. The other has Russia so weak it is losing its war with Ukraine.
Again, this is a tell that the administration is lying-they are just trying to paint Trump in the best possible light.

Die Abstimmung vom Freitag vergangener Woche (10. Juli) muss nach der Sommerpause wiederholt werden. Für die Verabschiedung wäre die Kanzlermehrheit von mindestens 316 Abgeordneten erforderlich gewesen.
Die Videoaufzeichnung der Sitzung zeige jedoch, dass deutlich weniger als 316 Abgeordnete überhaupt anwesend gewesen seien. Nach einer Zählung von heise online waren es weniger als 100. Ein Schaden entstand durch die Panne nicht, da das Gesetz noch nicht durch den Bundesrat ging. Die Länderkammer tagt erst Ende September wieder. Damit kann der Bundestag die Abstimmung Anfang September wiederholen: Abstimmungspanne im Bundestag bei Polizeigesetz.“

Wer könnte denn da etwas gegen Datenschutz haben? Es ist ein Rätsel. Die Grünen treten den gleichen Weg wie die SPD an. Von Realos als Machtvehikel missbraucht wird das erst wieder besser, wenn die entmachtet sind. Und es geht eher in die gegenteilige Richtung.
