Having 108 Entities calling the "InBounds" every physics step is costing me 1-5 milliseconds per Physics step. Doesn't seem too bad, but I bet it could be optimized more.

Here's hoping I did not just spend all day re-inventing the wheel. Worked on an algorithm to determine if a 2d circle projected on to a 3d mesh is "in bounds" of the mesh. #Godot #gdscript

Woah, how are you approaching this? I recently merged a thing that lets DrawableTextures sync with the DecalAtlas for animating Decals, is this using a different approach?

“How fast do I get to a choice” - When I playtest tutorials/early games, this is really clarifying. Obviously exceptions, but in general it’s good to make sure players have interesting choices to make from the get-go, especially the class of choices you consider the core skill for the game

Found a use for DrawableTextures in a recent tangent - feels like a pretty great way to dynamically generate tables as a texture. Anyway, points to anyone who can figure out what this Type Chart means ;)

Theres truth for this, but it’s worth acknowledging: Pikmin was also made because of cool game tech! The GameCube was newly capable of handling a lot of entities at once, so they wanted to make a game with a lot of little guys running around en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pikmin_...

I see some concerns raised about Godot's policy on contributions using AI. TL;DR: Godot isn't vibe-coded. As a whole, the Godot foundation and maintainers are fairly critical of AI usage, and don't make nor accept vibe-coded contributions. Godot doesn't include AI features nor intends to add any.
Godot's current policy on AI-assisted contributions reads like this:

"The use of AI to contribute to Godot is discouraged, and contributions made entirely by AI are prohibited.

We acknowledge that AI can be useful, but we are convinced that human effort results in better and more relevant contributions.

If you do use AI, we expect that you put in effort to proofread and improve anything it generates, and that you disclose what you used AI for. As maintainers spend significant time reviewing your code, please make sure that the code you submit is well-tested and functional. Please be respectful of their time and only submit something you have put thought and effort into."

Live Service for sure, but also Early Access has played a role in this. Many cool Early Access games feel good enough at ‘launch’ that people forget they are EA and just see “oh this cool game I play received frequent content updates for 2 years”

This Feast/Famine also causes the modding scene to be a primary driver of Industry shift ('infinite' budget, built-in audience/platform) - but that of course requires good mod support, and narrows the scope of development to derivatives of existing ideas

Officially 100% Silksong - what a spectacular game. I think I give it 9/10 due to some rough balancing, and the ending not feeling as grand/satisfying as the original, but that doesn't detract from it being an absolute joy to play. Sheerly stunning in scale, and packed with constant surprise.
