Is a good AI future possible? Right now it's hard to feel hopeful: authors' work was stolen to train the models, chatbot-powered scammers are flooding the book market with slop and trying to steal from us, and arts workers are being told to train their own replacements.

Differences can be celebrated, ignored, or persecuted. It's harmful when hateful, self-terrifying people reduce others to one or two distinctive and therefore targetable qualities. "Illegal" immigrants. "Barbarians" for whom enslavement is justified. Or being "Queer" and therefore abhorrent.
